Yes the 305's are rated for 10.5" to 11.5" wheels. I have a friend who does a lot of tire testing for Grassroots Motorsports. And he also has a lot of track experience testing for his own use in the OLOA.

Seems like it's either RE71 or cup2s for me. I actually think cup2s are ok if you get caught in some rain going to the track.

Just talked to Ford and my vin that finishes with 2185 is not affected by the recall.
Yes they are OK but not a lot of hydroplaning resistance in standing water and they do not like cold and wet.

My Feb build is on the list so it will stay off the track until it gets the fix. I don't want to be the guy who takes a problem car on track and have it let go, oil down the track and cause my friends cars damage.

It won't be as fast but I will bring my FR-S on RE-71R to RA instead.

That's great. Will be fun to meet up again. I know you're not a fan of driving other people's cars but you know your old car is always available for a few laps. It's got a few more goodies on it since I took over.

Well after giving it some thought I guess i'm going pull my GT350 from any track use until the recall is finished. Peter made a great point - sure the car would be covered under warranty if something happened but what about everyone else who drives through the oil spill.

The good news - I have heard dealers getting parts as early as Dec 13. My dealer will be looking into it next week.

With that I have a track day coming up and looks like this may be a good excuse to track my 997S for the first time! I've never tracked a 911 in my life and this 997S I have been daily driving for over 7 years. I've put over 89,000 miles on it and highly maintained. Runs like a champ.

Any tips welcome - kind of excited actually to see what a lightweight old Porsche can do!

Appreciate the info Peter - i'll be trying out one of these options once the oil lines are all sorted.

Did a little online search yesterday. Do you run 305/30/19? Or is there any 305/35/19 available?

At this point in time, the 305 RE-71R is only available in the lower aspect ratio 305/30/19. In stock now at Tire Rack for $354/ea.

305/30 19 a little shorter but good for the gearing. In the MPSS the 305/30 19 has a significantly wider tread width over the 305/35 19.

The Kumho V720 is also available and seems to work very much like RE71R and is less expensive.

V720 is an interesting tire. From an Autox perspective it is close to RE-71R but there have been visible instances of tread separation and delamination observed under those conditions. For this reason I am Leary of using one at this time.

I had the gt350R out today on the streets in Canada. The Michelin sport cup 2 tires don't like the cold. It was a couple of degrees C above freezing. Had to be very careful on the freeway exits.

PS Wife hates the car. "it's no GT3"

Funny a Z06 and GT350 owner recently went to the Porsche Experience Center to test the new GT3 RS to compare it to the new GT350.

My wife used to prefer the GT350 to the Porsche until she drove up to Road Atlanta with me on a 6 hour drive. She was impressed with "how smooth" the car rides along on a long trip. I had as much fun driving up to that track as I did at the actual event.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, great that they are happy with their gt350.
The gt350 is a good car, but to even compare it to a 991rs is IMO pretty silly.

The gt350 is a sledgehammer and the 991rs is a scalpel.
For those of you that have driven Nissan GT-R but not a gt350 they actually have a similar feel and size.
So I would compare the gt350 vs gtr and BMW m3/4. The gt350 wins in every department against those cars. Engine is better, MT is good, it's actually a very comfortable DD. High with good ground clearance, clutch is the only real negative, as much feel as a Ford Focus rental car.
Can't get more for $60k in today's car market.
But, personally I wouldn't even mention it in the same sentence as a 991gt3/RS.
