Since you need back seats why not consider a GT350 with the Track Option? You get the backseats with the Flat Plane Crank and the MagneRide. 3000-4000 will be in production for 2016. What you don't get is the carbon wheels and R compound tires. All of these variants of the GT350 have an ADM but non R is less severe - 5k ADM is possible right now (though hard to find)- so MSRP deals should become more common on the non R. Considering your going to be street driving i'm guessing with occasional track use- might be the better option.
There are too many factors of the R that put me off. The carbon rear wing part alone retails at $18,240 dollars - the carbon wheels retail at just below $15,000 - if any of these items get damaged enjoy replacing that.

Valid points. 1-3 tested on my Boss 302 in the hot summers of NOLA MS and Road Atlanta - never once over heated. I was flat out most days but by no means a professional. I don't remember over heating ever being an issue with Ford's track purpose cars. This is a Corvette issue mostly. Did the Porsche GT3 have heating issues on the track?
There was a recent magazine comparo that noted high oil temps on the 350R during a track day when the ambient temps were not very warm. It may have been linked earlier in this thread or in the other 350GT thread on this forum. While the car didn't go into limp mode on that occasion, it seemed a bit troubling to me.
I agree that previous iterations of the Mustang V8 have been fairly robust as far as the engine is concerned. Let's see how this all-new design fares in the peak summer season. Will you be bringing yours to NOLA this summer? When do you take delivery?

I'll be using my gt350 as kid hauler. But will of course buy aftermarket wheels and put R comp on those. Still use 996.3 track car but will be nice to stretch the 350s legs at Sebring every now and then.
Can't wait for tomorrow at Sebring, might get some rain. Good day for car control work.

Overheating is very rare on a GT3. I've tracked my 996 GT3 at NOLA, Road Atlanta and Barber in the peak heat of summer and never encountered overheating.

Congrats! There's a NASA DE at NOLA last weekend of Jan and a PCA DE late Feb. Get your break in mileage done and bring her out on track.

Why did you go tech package over track package? Just curious. I wish ford would offer the big infotainment on the base GT350 with track package but they don't. You're stuck with this little kmart radio. The only way to do get the screen and track option is to deck out an R model but then no backseats which I want for extra peeps.

The weekend before xmas I was able to let her rip at HMS nascar banks... if any of you get a 350, you're going to really enjoy its performance and FPC sound. What a fun car!
