Don't need to be smart to own a BMW!!!
In perusing one of my Mercedes forum web sites, I came across TWO posts on a BMW web site that are absolutely hilarious. When you have 5 minutes or so and want to laugh out loud MANY times, visit these two sites:
1. Problem with oil change:

2. Paper towel sucked into intake:
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1016574
(this one has a 2 minute police pursuit that is equally funny!).
Laugh out loud a lot and enjoy your day (and appreciate your God given intelligence!).

Or 911 cousins with the dry sump aircooled engines often have such issues......many a quick oil change shop has "filled" the oil tank . And then they smoke like CRAZY, New owners not realizing that the engine has to be running when you check the oil.

In that BMW thread one post was about being at the bottom mark on the dip stick but then said "the oil light is not coming on" which means they thought that they were OK until the oil light came on...

One of the Indian guys I went to grad school with filled his engine up to the top of the valve cover. He drove it like that for a day or two and then complained it was "really slow". My other buddy drained about 4 gallons out and then it was good.

One day I was helping a guy to jump his Honda accord, battery was dead. The engine bay had fresh oil poured all over the valve cover. When I asked what was going on he said his oil light came on and was trying to add some oil through the oil dipstick tube. Complaining how hard it was. He didn't realize the cap on top of the valve cover was for adding oil.

Back in high school, a friend's parent was complaining to me that their VW Dasher was groaning, and smoke was emitting from the engine bay. I checked the dipstick and found sludge that made driveway tar sealant look like benzine.
I asked them: "When is the last time you changed the oil?"
Mr. Ford: "Oil?"
Me: "Yeah, do you go to Jiffy Lube or take it to the dealer?"
Mr. Ford: "Car hasn't been to the dealer since it was new." (It had >70k miles on it.)
The amazing thing is that they changed the oil, and it still ran.
