Love to pick your brain.

Where are you located?
What tracks do you run, how many days in what Corvettes?
lap times. I doubt any car keep up with a ZR1..

Etc.

It's all relative but it sounds like you may be up to speed ;-)
I'm cool with dropping in a 10 k engine every 50 track days and or replacing the car and repeat. IF they feel right in my hands :-)
Yep, a GM car (and most other cars besides a few rare exceptions) are going to depreciate, and ESPECIALLY if you pay sticker. My '10 ZR1 was $121k sticker and I bought it with 16 miles on it brand new from a dealer in December of 2010, so it was a leftover '10 model. I paid $101k, so $20k off. It's worth $75k-80k now give or take, so 20% real price depreciation for 2.5 years on a car like this isn't bad. You just need to buy cars like these at the right price up front. A guy on Corvetteforum just posted today, he got $30k off a brand new leftover '12 ZR1 that was fully loaded and Crystal red. Heck of a deal.

I live in Texas, so I have countless track days in my former '01 C5 (lightly modded on R-comps), my former '08 LS3 C6 (lightly modded on R-comps), and now my current nearly stock ZR1 (SRF brake fluid and slicks on 18" wheels only mods).

The ZR1 is very fast and there aren't any stock cars I've come across on the track that can keep up. The Viper ACR is the closest to date. A GT3 RS is a fast car, but it's a few seconds behind, at least, on most tracks solely because of the horsepower deficit. Haven't run across any well driven F-cars or turbo GT2 cars. Lap times depend on what tires I'm running, but averages are very low 1:50's, high 1:40's at Texas World Speedway, high teens at Motorsport Ranch Cresson, 2:22 on a sloppy lap at COTA, etc.

Your comment about Chevy dealerships is well understood, but that can be fixed. Ask around. I have a local dealer that I keep in good with the service tech, service director (read: liquor, wine, Christmas gifts, etc.) and I've never had any problem. That said, my car has been very solid too, but I did have a $4500 warranty repair when I blew out one of the cats. I talked them into replacing both cats, both mufflers, and both O2 sensors all at the same, so I didn't bring hte car back later if/when the other cat failed.

In short, you can be taken care of under warranty without issue if you keep the car stock or very near stock (no engine tune) and take care of your service guys.

Anyway, enough rambling. The Z28 is awesome and I wouldn't mind having one as another track toy.

Curious: what size deposit did they want?
$1000, refundable. It's with a very reputable (Corvette specialty) salesman who has a long standing reputation for MSRP (or less) sales.

Pros/cons to the A/C option. It will be a nice day fun car for street use, with maybe 3-4 track days a year just to experience a rhinoceros of a car on track...lol. If I track other than RFR I'll trailer it for sure. So for my specific use I could be fine with A/C delete. Plenty of time to stew this over.

I don't think the choices have been released yet? I've heard five choices for production car and that the show car matte white pearlescent will not be an option due to durability issues. But are those facts? Don't know

I've emailed some contacts at GM to try and get some more info, I'll post it up in this thread if I hear back.

Whoops! I had to find a "correct" graphic. The serious Z28 guys would crucify me if it didn't have the /
Awesome! LOL

PS- The LS1 427 ci (7.0L) engine in the Z/28 will make "at least" 470 ft lbs TQ, so, likely more in the production car. A GT2RS makes 512 TQ.

As AP said himself in regards to the 4.0, "there is no replacement for displacement".

Nearly 500 ft lbs of naturally aspirated, linearly delivered torque is going to make for some amazing corner exits once you get used to putting the power down. Less technical tracks this thing is going to give GT3's a serious run for the money. Super tight, technical tracks, the weight/mass will theoretically work against it in transitions.

Just talking out loud here. I think the Z/28 will easily match lap times of .2 GT3RS on any given track (as NJ-GT alluded to earlier)?

My prediction on the new Z06 will be >3100lbs and over 550 HP. And, if you are worried about the LS7 detonating just replace the heads for less than $5K and you will be pushing over 600 HP with the addition of some headers and intake. Not bad for a car that should still be under $90k for a LT1 option.

Given the spec of the Z/28, I would not be at all surprised if it turned 1:35 at LS on its OE Trofeo R's, that is GT3 time on slicks!

How is this related to HL&S? Let's be analytical?

It all comes down to braking, as I said earlier in this thread.

hmmm, my post was meant for the Corvette April Fool's Day post, looks like those got put elsewhere or I just replied on the wrong screen. Just so happened to sound like a critique of the Camaro, unintentionally.

was out driving(hard) my cousin's brand-new SS 6spd, on PZero's last night...really can't see a Z28 being anywhere near a GT3 on the track, the Camaro FEELS HEAVY!! a certain test corner I have, I could easily put my basically stock 951 through at 10% faster than what the Camaro SS was able to...and was kinda straight-line slow too IMO(hard to believe 426hp) nice street car though, overall experience is almost identical to driving a V8 5series BMW..have a good-buddy with a '10 SS 6spd lightly modded and experience is similar to above so not a one-off...C6 Z06 experience is different

Savy, what makes it so much heavier than a GT3? Wonder how hard t would be to put it on a diet.

Holy Crap!

Camaro Chief Engineer 1:55 "We warranty this car for track days. If you have a warranty claim we're covering it".

OMG GM people you are freaking amazing!

Porsche- Suck it!

Unbelievable, what have I been missing all this time?

You MUST SEE THIS VIDEO!
