Default 2014 Camaro Z28 joining the track-day fun

At least it comes with a manual. Looks way better than the SS and ZL1. Obviously Grand-Am GS teams running a Camaro will be happy about this model. It's still a pig though, 3800 lbs.

Heavy, but I applaud the direction and the attempt. I like all the specs except the weight. Go GM! Did I just say that?

Dayum...

394mm front ceramic disks, 388mm rear- YEAH BABY

Pirelli PZero Trofeo R tires, sized 305/30ZR19- Dayum!

"In keeping with the less-weight mantra there is no carpet in the trunk and no interior sound deadening material, a one-speaker sound system and thinner rear glass on the Z/28. The front seats use manual adjusters. The pass through was eliminated from the rear seat back and foam replaces some rigid structure in the rear seats. Fog lights and HID headlights are not available and the needed wiring was taken out of the harness. Air conditioning is optional.

"We looked at every subsystem for opportunities to save weight," Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheiser said.

Chevrolet says the Camaro Z/28 can pull 1.05 g in cornering. Spool-valve dampers enable tuning for high-speed and low-speed bump and rebound and let engineers spec a stiffer damper for the car. Spring rates and suspension bushings are also stiffer.

The Z/28 aero package includes a heat extractor vent in the hood, large front splitter, extended rocker panels, large rear spoiler and diffuser.

Inside, Recaro seats are standard and include cutouts for racing belts."

Looking forward to seeing the pricing.

Porsche you have some serious sledgehammers moving towards your head. It is truly a great time to be a car enthusiast.

Why even try with that kind of weight ???
We already hate the 3000lbs from the RS ... can you imagine 3800 ???

The ZL1 lapped Laguna Seca in 1:39.1, faster than the 997.1 GT3, just 2.4 secs behind the 997.2 GT3 RS 3.8 driven by Randy Pobst.

If they have shaved 3 secs at a racetrack they won't name, I'm quite positive they are referring to Laguna Seca, because 300 lbs removed from the ZL1, an aero package added, the 7.0L 500Hp engine from the C6Z06 (and the Z06 beat the 3.8RS by exactly another 2.4 secs at LS), the CCM gigantic brakes, all the coolers, and the Trofeo R tires is enough to shave 3-4 secs at LS.

If this car is capable of turning 1:35-1:36 bone stock, we have a Camaro with the performance of a 997.2 GT3 RS 3.8, for 1/3 the price.

Awesome!!!

Neat idea. Z06 powered camaro to compete with BOSS 302 mustang.

i like it better then the lame supercharged cadillac powered ZL-1. Sould have been the ZR1 engine in the ZL-1.

Still, chevrolet never really stepped up like Ford with their body in white program. Disappointing.

Spot on. Spot f'ing on. 3-4 secs vs previous iterations easily, 4-5 would not surprise me. Wow, crazy stuff. I LOVE it. If this car comes in anywhere around $60k it is a hugely compelling value.

I've had an eye on BOSS302, really like it, and this Z28 just smokes it, at least on the spec sheet.

Not only Porsche - BMW had better step it up with the M4. This car is squarely aimed at the BMWCCA DE crowd.

Will be good to see how it holds up. For $60k it is attractive. Those brakes!

I really like my Boss. Nothing quite like cranking up that V8. Not that great for track work compared to GT3. This Z28 does smoke it on paper though. Still prefer the looks of the Boss though.

Hmmm the seats I saw did not have a center hole for 6 point belts and on 1st glance the shoulder pass thru looked a little wide. You are also smoking crack if you think it will run anywhere close to 2:20 at Sebring without major improvements. That being said I like the new rear and applaud the push to lose weight. All around decent street car that could do occasional track day ala Boss 302 without the clutch/electrical limp mode issues and brake pads that last for more than 5 30 min sessions. Hope they fixed the LS 7 valve train issues.

I hope that is true. I run 1.37's in traffic at LS, and that is a FAST lap time. Granted my car weights much less and my car cost double this did back in its hay day. I'm looking to replace it for a new speciment. As long as it does not drive like the 2002 SS camaro( probably the worse car I have ever driven in terms of handling/brakes/chassi dynamics) , I'm willing to try this camaro. It looks great. Great aero bits too!
