Every car break and no street car is spare of that despite what car commercial want you to believe. GT3 Cup is a different story but if you downshift one too many times in a high pressure brake zone and mechanically rev the engine past 11500 RPM then it's time to visit the prayer chapel

Mooty, I think you underestimate how bad some are on track.
We push cars hard. One thing to break a GT3 once in a while, its another thing to buy cheap POS and not be able to finish the first track day, or even the first session...

I would LOVE it if a Viper or Corvette or even a Mustang held up, but by the time you get there you spent GT3 money and not nicer to drive..Some faster, maybe...

You may spend some money, but you aren't spending 3.8 RS money, and let's not forget the 10's of thousands of dollars in extra mods on the fastest DE cup cars as well. Both scales are sliding scales.

Vipers are tough cars, the only thing tearing Vipers up at the track are the bad driving. I've instructed a Gen III Viper running double duty with father and son in two separate groups all day without skipping a beat. Both running mid-high 1:30's at Road Atlanta. I think he told me he money shifted or crashed it at the very next event, but the car was stout.

I lost more on my '01 Mustang GT's then all my GT3's combined.

Did it have a roll bar? Do they exist?
Love to try one on. Gotta love the Viper's power price and amenities but pricey in the end:

Two Snakes, One Mission
SRT Viper and SRT Viper GTS models were created with specific goals of satisfying the insistent desires of Viper customers everywhere. The SRT Viper is an all-out performance machine aimed squarely at the enthusiast seeking a direct connection to his or her vehicle. It is a modernized adaptation of the original. Equally potent, the SRT Viper GTS offers drivers a new level of amenities. Its added content and features offer owners exceptional comfort and ability. Whether choosing the SRT Viper or SRT Viper GTS, owners will be undoubtedly enamored by its beauty and sheer performance capabilities.

2013 SRT Viper starting price

SRT Viper $97,395
SRT Viper GTS $120,395
Prices do not include $1,995 destination fee, and a gas guzzler tax charge which will be finalized when final fuel economy ratings are official.

Color Palette
Consistent with the hand-built nature of the SRT Viper, every application of paint is completed manually including preparation, sanding and polishing, resulting in one of the best paint jobs in the industry. For 2013, this spectacular paint will be available in a mixture of classic SRT Viper shades, as well as some new colors.

Six color choices are offered for the 2013 SRT Viper: Adrenaline Red, Black Venom, Bright White, Gunmetal Pearl, Race Yellow and Shadow Blue Pearl. The Viper GTS receives expanded availability including Stryker Red Tinted Pearl and GTS Blue.

Only after the paint is cured, a final clear coat is applied ensuring the stripe is an integral part of the finished product. Stripes offered on the SRT Viper start on the hood, make their way over the roof panel and finish on the decklid. Equal-width stripes run the entire length of the SRT Viper GTS starting on the front fascia, gracing its hood, roof and decklid, and finishing on the rear fascia. Billet Silver, Black Venom and Gunmetal are all offered as stripe colors. Bright White body-length stripes are held exclusively for the 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition.

Well the new ones are directed squarely at Porsche, Audi, Lambo buyers. It also should be compared with the soon to be inflated prices of the 991. The new fancy interior with the plush leather blah blah blah. You can buy one bare bones for 97k or you can get all of the fixin's for 140k. Thing is it doesn't get any faster for the extra money.

GM and SRT have finally started realizing that the people who buy their Corvette and Viper are old guys who have some bank. Many guys have several Vipers in the garage. American loyalists who would buy 10 Vipers before one Porsche. For the low volume sales of these models, it makes sense to give them options to compete with the Euro cars.

The Gen IV Viper and ACR, immensely faster than anything GT3 related during the time period, were both available under or right at 100k. Would cost 215 K with turbos to stay on same lap.

But I only opted in red what is go faster stuff?
Adds up to about $135K. You want the right seats, brakes and areo right?

Buying the base is like buying a GT3, makes no sense if you are tracking it when the RS / GTS is available.

The Corvette has better chances of becoming an econo track weapen..

The Viper is not cheap. 60k C7 though with 450 torque is a fun track toy.

You missed the part where the regular Viper sells for 97k. Im sorry but the color Gunmetal Pearl does not count as a go fast part. And that Aero kit is for show. It's not a real aero kit, nor is there any data that suggests it's any faster. And no, not paying 3000 for alcantera seats.

The GTS is not faster than the base SRT. Just heavier.

All you need is an SRT with the track pack, which comes with pretty lame Pirelli Corsas.

SRT + Track Pack + Color of choice = <110k

As if there are no options on an RS? Imagine what the 991 RS will cost.....

I would wait for the ACR.

Arent those the track seats?
paint was $500-$1000.
Track pack?
Brakes?

I thought you need the GTS to have all the good stuff but I guess just luxury stuff?

You really want to buy all that stuff aftermarket with the experimenting and instant depreciation? I want a car from SRT that's as ready to go as possible.

$110K is not too bad but I guess you have to add aero and maybe shocks like on all the old Vipers. Too heavy for stock shocks I was told by a long time Viper owner..

Anyone know if they have roll bars fo these things?

The build now thing does not work yet, so a bit confusing what you exactly need to order to go fast..

There are no options on my first RS or the 4.0..

I know some Porsche guys like the luxury super expensive stuff. I like functional stuff. I'd much prefer buy myself a set of seats that I can rag at the track and then put the stockers back in and sell it and sell the seats separately. If I'm spending 3k, it won't be on factory seats that still weigh a ton. The GTS is all luxury, the stoptech rotors come with the trackpack on either model. Brakes are the same I think.

From the sounds of driver impressions, aero might be needed. Which is why I'd wait for the ACR. Should come out slightly before or around the same time as the new RS.

This is all hypothetical for me anyways, because I don't see myself getting rid of my Turbo any time soon. That nullifies a car with aero on it. I want a great looking sports car that looks great on the street with no aero and is good for an occasional drag, nonchalant track day or mountain run. Now that I have dedicated track car, not really interested in making a car try to do both effectively. Of course that means I would accept PDK on that car.

Laguna Seca: 3.8RS (1:36.7)

The ZR1 spanked the 3.8RS by 3 seconds, that would be like 5 seconds at Sebring. The new Viper on the comfort configuration (no aero and not the lightest setup), on crappy Pirelli tires spanked the Aero Beetle as well, by a full second. The old ACR did it by almost 3 seconds, and the old Z06 did it by 2.3 secs.

One can take any of these American Muscle cars, and drive 7/10th, and still beat the Aero Beetles, while driving 1,000rpm below redline, slow shifting, short-shifting, and getting a lot more track days out of the tires.

The new 2013 Viper with Aero and MPSC tires will destroy all the Aero Beetles.

The Viper, ZR1 and Z06 already spank the Aero Beetles at their home turf (Nurburgring) and here is U.S. (VIR and Laguna Seca).

Do you think Sebring would be any different? answer==> not remotely.

Jim was running 2:17s all day back in Winterfest 2011 with a stock Viper ACR, while Trakcar's best lap that weekend was a 2:20 (or a 2:19.999 as he calls it). Big spank by the old generation Viper, car ran with no issues.

I'd like to see a video of that! Or at least an ExtraNorml interpretation video. LOL's would ensue

Precisely. It's roughly half the price of a Viper...not remotely comparable.
