Totalled my BMW.....
The insurance claims its worth ~$4500 and its totalled. It is a '97 528i, although it is old enough not to have a salvage branded on the title a carfax will show its been totalled. Not sure what the buy back it maybe $1000, I'm guessing for another $1000 I can get it fixed and painted, but it will be hard to sell when I'm ready to. I've already owned it for the last 7 years not sure what to do yet. It's been a great car, and I can't imagine it will have issues that can't be resolved in the future, but the I definitely stuck driving it for a while.
Maybe I should jump ship and get something else. I've always been partial to something a bit bigger, hmmmm.

For that, I'd buy it back and do the minimum, and drive it more. Consider the insurance check making the car "Free"

Fix the thing. Looks like a nice $2000 car and who cares what it's worth after you're done with it.

The agent told me the damage (hood, slight fender and a few things under the hood) adds up to ~$3700 and its close enough in their book to the $4500 value that they will be totaling it. It is a '97 and a 528i.
I can get away with just a hood and fender and dealing with the little plastic stuff underneath later, but I've been driving it for 7 years and think I'm ready for a change, maybe. I may just back it back fix and sell cheap enough, couple grand and go buy another or something else.
The glass is a little foggy on the headlights, but they are Hella form a 2000 M5. What do you want to spend? I'm going to drop the old lights back in ASAP. PM me an offer and they may be yours soon enough....

The design of E39 BMWs is timeless. Great cars. Had two of them years ago. If you can buy it back from $1K, I think it is a no brainer if you can do most of the work yourself.

hit a buck, that time of year up here. He kept running. I was going, maybe, 10 when I hit him. He just kind of layed on the hood. Had antlers, but it wasn't a big rack.

Your problem would be the plastic cooling system in that car. Hoods are cheap on carpartswholesale.com. If the bumper brackets are not ripped off, then you can reattach and not have to get a new bumper. I would take the check because of the cooling system. If the cooling system is fine, then it is up in the air.
