Power Steering Failure

I have a 2017 Macan with about 55,000 miles. Recently the power steering failed and turning the steering wheel was very difficult. The dealer said the whole power steering column had to be replaced. Luckily I purchased an extended warranty and most of the $5000 cost will be covered. The part had to be ordered from Germany and it was installed today and I just picked the car up. However, the power steering doesn't feel right and I will have to bring it in again. Has anyone else experienced this?

Electronic steering racks don't like water. I killed mine by driving fast over standing water over a prolonged period of time. I fixed mine with a rebuilt unit at an indie shop for $1,500.

I have no idea what the steering setup in a Macan looks like, but if it's a traditional steering box setup, there is an adjustment screw on it to reduce on center Freeplay (tightening the adjuster) or a wheel that's too tight and won't return to on-center by itself (loosening the adjuster).
Take it back in and tell the service manager you want him to drive it and if he can't discern the "not quite right" feeling you have to drive a new one and feel the difference, then make yours drive like that

LOL, no, the rack free-play is adjusted at the rack factory, when the rack is built. It only needs adjustment when the internals of the rack wear, and start to rattle.

Same problem today after driving 50’ through 3-4” water at 1-2mph with off road selected to raise the chassis. Estimate to repair is $6.2k, scary an on road/off road vehicle can’t handle a little water!

Power Steering Failure came on today. Took it to the dealer and internal control unit is dead. To say I am upset would be an understatement. I thought it was the best of both worlds.
