If you are having issues with the Apple Carplay icon showing up on its own, try the below. I recently reset a few settings on my phone and when I reinstalled Android Auto on my phone, something occurred that wasn't summoning the Apple Carplay to load on the PCM unit.
I had to manually go to the Devices menu for the Device Manager / Connection Manager and press the Link selection for AUTO-DC3C (which is the Android Auto device). Once that was selected and green, it established the connection and the Apply Carplay icon showed up in the right side menu.
I thought you are using the usb box for android auto, the box should just emulate as an CarPlay device so should not affect your android phone.
you can get coolwalk installed now on your phone, it looks much better

Just an update, for my 2019, the Ottocast U2-X Pro adapter did not work, nor did the Smart World Company CP-AA adapter.
I updated the firmware in each adapter to the latest, still doesn't work. CarPlay briefly starts on the PCM screen, then it stops.
Both returned to Amazon. Bummer......
Maybe I don't have the CarPlay option on my PCM5, but the home screen shows a tile "Apple CarPlay, no device connected"
Update: I was able to verify that I do have Apple Carplay on my 2019 PCM5, connected an iPhone and CarPlay came up, but I guess there is something different about the CarPlay software in an early 2019 PCM5 (Dec 2018 build), that is incompatible with the Ottocast U2-X Pro and the Smart World Company CP-AA adapters. And yes, at the time I was trying the adapters, I used the PCM Device Manager to try to get the adapters to connect.
I am giving up on the pursuit of Android Auto on my Macan.

I just had my 2023 Macan worked on by Raymond, and once the Ethernet connection was working between my laptop and the car (via a 172.x.x.x static IP address), it was all on Raymond to VPN into my laptop to upload the software into the PCM. My impression is that this effectively works like a jailbreak on an iPhone in order to install a patched app.
I've now got the Android Auto "Coolwalk" experience working on my Macan's PCM5! 100% satisfied with Raymond's work!

Glad to hear you got it working. A couple of questions:
1. In your photo and the past 5 photos posted of the maps, the map is not any larger than using the dongle unit I have. Is this just because the music tile is up and can that be closed for a full screen map?
2. When you are playing music through Android Auto, does the song information show up in the digital display on the dashboard?

You can select just the map showing with Android auto. Wholescreen map, it's great. Yes, the song info does show on the display. I use the Motorola dongle so it's wireless as well. I'll take pictures and post later.

He's a small business guy whose source of income is doing these mods for customers, typically off-time zone for him since he's in New Zealand. This thread is as close as he can get to Yelp or Amazon reviews for his service. After he's done, he politely asks if you liked the service to please leave a post on this thread. Took just a few minutes of my time to express how my enjoyment of the PCM is much greater than before.
I used a spare Windows 10 laptop for the connection and then re-imaged it afterwards. The new Android Auto Coolwalk UI works 100% fine on my 2023 Macan.

This isn't the thread for those reviews though and I see that it's been used for that and muddied my attempt of why I started this thread.
I started this thread so that I can share my experience with an alternative to someone from across the world fiddling with the code in my car. It's just not something I'm interested in and I wanted to share a simple alternative that may or may not work.
Turns out in my case it did work and I'm still using it just fine each day. I just find it odd that I have seen several people who have left reviews as their first post and likely none others.
