This is just a suggestion. Instead of "resetting the PCM", when you want to use AA and this issue is occurring, try a wired AA connection first, and if the AA activates, then unplug the wire and plug in the MA1. This might force it to switch over.
Yes I have tried this but using the USB cable is not always working 100%. I've tried about 7 different cables. It is sporadic when plugging in with the cable pops up Android Auto on the PCM. Twice it popped up, I unplugged the cable and plugged in the MA1 and waited, waited, and nothing.
Factory reset of the pcm connects the MA1 every time. Which is why I wasn't sure if this vendor solution was also tested with both an iphone and an Android phone.
I've bought the Ottocast U2-X and U2-X pro to use Android Auto with.
U2-X works, U2-X pro works better.
I am returning the U2-X because it is difficult to update (missing a button that is required for the update procedure).
My biggest annoyance is it keeps trying to connect to my parked Macan in the garage, even when the car is off and locked.
The U2-X connects automatically most of the time, but when it doesn't i just have to tap on the top to bring up the connection manager and connect manually.
It's annoying, but for the times that i need to use google map for navigation, its good enough.
If you want an okay experience and want to keep your car un-touched, just go with the U2-X pro. Android Auto is laggy but okay.
If you want a good experience, DON'T get this as you will end up fiddling around.

To use the cable, you need to configure your phone to USB default settings for MICI mode. This will fix it.

Do you mean MIDI mode? Because it was originally in Transfer files/Android Auto. I will give that a shot.
I spoke with Simaservice and he mentioned that with 2 phones, iPhone and Android, if you have the Android auto activated on your PCM and an IPhone connects to the car and then Carplay pops up the only way to get Android auto back to working is to factory reset the PCM. So this is something i must do every time my fiancé drives the car so it is pretty annoying since she is an iphone user. Somehow the PCM gets confused between the two implementations since wireless CarPlay is native to my Macan and obviously Android Auto is not.

Yes, MIDI. It will work every time. But I use Motorola dongle so I understand your frustration.

Thank you, that indeed does work everytime. It would be nice to have the Motorola adapter work too when an IPhone has connected to the car in the past. Seems like the only way to get wireless AA back is to just factory reset the PCM if an IPhone has connected to the PCM previously.
I have just bought a Carlinkit 4.0 to use in a 2019 Macan with PCM 5 and its very poor. Very difficult to connect and usually ends up black screening the PCM unit after 10mins so avoid

Try the SmartWorld one that I linked to. Still no issues and it's working great. It connects automatically within seconds every time and I've only had a couple disconnects (It quickly reconnects on its own) in the past month. I am using it with a Samsung Galaxy S21.
native full screen with latest Android auto in full screen is the best

After a few drives, I am pleased that the box is stable and smooth. No glitches or issues so far. It connects automatically and does what it should do. The 2/3 screen size does not bother me, the resolution is very high and operationally, its fine.
Its a great option versus modifying code in the system and voiding the warranty. Should anything go wrong with the system, these are expensive, even for used replacements and new, they are extremely expensive. I'll do what I can to keep the warranty.
Do you mind posting a picture of the screen? I am interested in seeing how much is being cut off. Also, this is a wireless solution (phone to the unit)? Thanks.

Post #11 has the photo. Nothing is cut off, just in the OEM-sized box for carplay. Yes its wireless.
