AAA Wheel & Tire Protection Worth It?
I picked up my 23' GTS a few weeks ago and was contemplating on getting the AAA Wheel and Tire protection for the duration of my lease (36 months). Has anyone this insurance service from AAA?
At a cost of $928 for 3 year coverage it seems like a great value, especially since it also covers the replacement of loss keys and dings
I'm a realtor and do lots of driving and I assume the replacement/installation cost of a new 21" Michelin Pilot Sport All Season is not going to cheap. I've attached their pricing and coverage guide.

The way I view all these sorts of insurance/buyer-protection plans is that they are in fact a very expensive form of insurance. When you consider any of these plans, I would suggest looking at your entire household risk of appliances, TVs, wheels, tires, etc. all needing replacement in a year (odds are pretty low) vs. the cost of "insurance" on all of them.
We have concluded in our household that saving all the "insurance" premiums more than covers the failure of any one of the insurable products. In other words, we "self insure".
Note that this is a very different calculus than liability insurance or loss coverage for high-value items, like a car or home. Do the math and see if it makes sense for you.
The 3-year rate quoted in your post would cover at least a tire per year... how many tires did you lose to failure (not wear and tear) in the last 3 years?

I just paid $2500 for wheel and tire insurance through Sonsio (dealer initially quoted $2,985) for 5 years/unlimited mileage for my '23 GTS...beginning to have second thoughts about it though.

When I was finalizing my paperwork at the dealer they tried to push their 3rd party wheel and tire insurance on me and when I told them I could get the same coverage for under $1000 with AAA they said it was no brainer... I assume a new tire replacement on a GTS (21" wheel) is around 400-450 right? Just trying to figure if it makes sense..

per @schnell, it's expensive insurance, you're gambling and the insurance co is the casino.

You can count on a 21" tire running ~$450.
Get a screw or nail in the tire that's either too close to the sidewall or in the sidewall and you're talking replacement - not repair.
Live where there are potholes? I hit one a few years ago and it cut the sidewall of a tire - going 35 MPH. New tire!
I have a wheel & tire package and have used it for two (2) tires in the last 5 years. That's close to $1000 for the tires - PLUS labor. I was glad to
have had the coverage.
...now if a wheel had been ruined, that would have paid for the coverage!

FWIW, two years ago, I had a curb jump off the side of the road and attack my left front 20" RS Spyder wheel. Thought it was too damaged to get it close. Found an unmounted wheel on EBay for $900. A bargain considereing a new one runs around $1,300+. Yeah. It's worth it.

Meh, a tire is going to run about $400 and mount/balance/dispose/etc is about $50, all for a 21" GTS OE tire.
Everybody is different of course, but in the last 10 years (over an embarrassingly large number of vehicles) I think we've had one tire that needed to be replaced outside of normal wear and tear, never lost a key, etc. How much would it have cost to buy insurance for all of those vehicles? Those programs aren't offered and pushed so hard by dealerships because they are loss leaders.

Ended up cancelling the policy through the dealership and should get about $2400 of the $2500 back, then signed up for the AAA coverage (including PDR and key replacement) for $1,003 for 5 years/unlimited mileage. Thanks again for the tip
