If your username is anything indicating where you're at, there's a shop in Chantilly, VA called GT Peace. It's worth giving them a call. I talked to them a few weeks ago about the potential for a mechatronics unit replacement out of precaution based on @Olddragger 's debacle over the last 2 years.

Alternatively, @VAGfan has had suggestions throughout this thread on Audi/VW mechatronics parts that may swap right in if you're mechanically inclined. I have noticed there are non-US mechatronic units available for a few grand (1-2) instead of the "Porsche units" which are ~8k. maybe the QC is different for different factories? But based on Ford's Mustang Chinese manual transmission debacle a few years ago I have a strong feeling it doesn't matter...

There is no difference in "Porsche" mechatronic units/parts versus "Audi" mechatronic units/parts, they all come out of the same VW/Audi/Borg-Warner transmission factory in Kassel Germany.

ATL Speedwerks in Gainesville, GA (just outside of Atlanta) does PDK rebuilds. Former big IMSA shop racing the Honda Civic in the old Conti series - but Todd (owner) is a longtime Porsche guy and they do a LOT of Porsche work. I'd give them a call if you're in VA.

Having the same issue, car lost reverse gear. Does anyone know good mechanics in Massachusetts or New England?

Thanks for the recommendation. I just got the report from dealership and they wanted a new transmission for $30k+, I sent the diagnosis to EPE and they said probably do need a new transmission. The cost for transmission is way over the resale value for a 2016 Macan S. I’m not sure what to do now..

What were the specific findings and/or DTC error codes? Can you post the "Report"?
Very few types of failures require the replacement of the entire transmission.

Thank you. Here is the diagnosis report. The communication issues might be battery related but I haven’t had any battery warnings so not sure. I just got in touch with a local repair shop they are willing to take a look, waiting for the tow truck to come now.

Perform Val check for codes found numerous codes stored in transmission unit U012100 - No communication with PSM control unit

U012600 - No communication with steering wheel electronics control unit (CAN bus, chassis)

U014000 - No communication with front-end electronics control unit

U016400 - No communication with A/C system

U021200 - No communication with steering wheel electronics

P174100

- Clutch pressure adaptation ? adaptation limit reached

P17D800

- Torque limitation due to clutch temperature

P17D600 - Clutch 1, pressure ? above limit value

P17D000

- Clutch 2 ? slip too high,

transmission will engage reverse but will not move when accelerating, also starting to do it in drive, Inspect harness, looks okay , internal failure of clutch 1 and 2 in transmission unit deciined transmission assembly

The "No Comm" codes are puzzling, but that sounds like Problem #2. It is possible that the root-cause of these Comm problems might be with the other modules (or the wiring of the CAN bus) that they share (nothing to do with the transmission itself).

Problem #1, an issue with the clutches, is most likely an internal issue with the Mechatronics unit, which can be easily removed with the transmission remaining in the car. A thorough inspection of the Mechatronic might reveal a problem with one of the solenoid valves, or the interconnect boards, which can be easily replaced. You can even buy a rebuilt Mechatronic unit from them, and just reuse your old TCU (transmission control computer) with the rebuilt Mechatronic. (The Mechatroninc consists of a "valve body" plus the TCU transmission control module)

The Macan PDK transmission is an Audi "DL501 / OB5 / DSG / S-Tronic" unit. Lots of repair parts can be found here: 0B5 (DL501) ⇨ Maktrans - automatic transmission parts online shop
They are located in Europe, I have ordered some parts from them, they are legit.

More parts (USA vendor): Audi B8/B8.5 S4 Quattro 3.0T DSG Transmission Parts - ECS Tuning

If the Mechatronic is OK, then it is possible that the clutches are worn, but the transmission must be removed from the car to replace them.
How many miles on this car?

The dealer did mention needs new battery so I assume that’s causing communication issues. The car is at 83k miles, mostly driven in city. It has sports chrono package so occasionally lunched, but I won’t say total more than 15 lunches over last 3 years.

One side note, might be unrelated. We last month had an extreme cold weather at sub10 degrees, that was the first time I felt the shift jerking a little bit. Although it’s back to normal very soon after the car warmed up.

Also, clear the codes, then try to drive the car and see what codes come back. The Comm codes could have been from a low system voltage (weak battery) when you tried to start the car in the extreme cold.

Thank you so much VAGfan. I am having my car towed to Revolution Automotive Services in Norwood, MA. They seem pretty knowledgeable with Porsche. I will send them this thread for reference, will update on what happens.

Have you ever had the PDK transmission serviced? Porsche recommends a fluid change every 4 years or 40k miles.

This is exactly why I will never own a newer Porsche out of warranty. These cars just don't hold up like they used too.

The PDK service was done by previous owner at 40k, the 80k service was planned to be done this summer.

I agree I should have extended the warranty after CPO expired. Just many people, online and in real life, saying how Porsche is reliable, which made me decide to take chance. I used to own an e90 with N54 engine, never dared to have it out of warranty lol.
