Default How often do you service pdk

Have a cpo 15 turbo nearing 60k miles. I will do spark plugs as recommended and an oil change (I do it every 5k). Pdk was serviced at 39xxx miles. Should I get the fluid changed at 60k or wait till 70?
how often are you guys doing other fluids such as transfer case. There’s the manual recs (like 10k mile oil changes) and then what people are actually doing

The maintenance sheet calls for PDK fluid changes at 40K and 80K, etc.

You're supposed to do a brake fluid flush at 60K, which was also supposed to have been done at 20K and 40K.

I understand. Do people follow that 40k interval or is there a philosophy of doing it early?

No reason to do it early, other than just wanting to spend money.

Keep in mind that time is a factor too. For instance PDK service is called for every 40k miles OR 48 months, whichever comes around first. If you look at the service intervals on your display in the vehicle, that’s why it lists both the mileage and a month/year for your next service intervals. Fluids degrade from time too, not just mileage/use.

Warning: Thread drift possibility!

I know brake fluid is hydroscopic and will accumulate water over time, but I can't recall ever reading anything definitive about engine oil and transmission fluid degrading with time. I always suspected the time intervals were there as a built in revenue generator for Porsche dealers. Would really like to know (science, not internet lore) if oils actually do degrade with time and if so, how? What causes them to degrade or break down? Oxidation maybe?

I just saw this post you made two years ago, while I was looking for info on my Maycan.I just changed the fluid in my transfer case yesterday. My Maycan S has 61K miles. The Porsche shop manual says to add 500ml of fluid. We only drained 300ml out. The fluid was black as tar. So where did the other 200ml go? There have been no leaks in my ownership, which is 6 years. It's a '15. So, your question is a good one.

Perhaps it was never filled to capacity to begin with - and that is what caused the fluid you drained to be the concentrated color / consistency that it was.

Very good judgment in changing that fluid when you did.

Others should take note of this.

I change the PDK fluid, and both filters, every 20,000 miles.
I change the Transfer Case fluid every 20,000 miles.
Cheap insurance versus the cost to repair or replace these two somewhat trouble prone units.

To get the entire 500mL of fluid out, the transfer case is drained from 2 locations.
1) The normal drain plug at the bottom.
2) You must use a downward curved tube to suck out the remaining fluid behind the fill plug. There is like a pocket just below the fill plug that the fluid needs to be sucked out of.

I've had slight problems in the Macan and 996 which were cured by a pdk service so i change at half the book interval.

The transfer box is such a cheap job that i get that done as well while the car's on the ramp.

Might just be that i do a lot of local driving so the car changes gear more than if it sat on a motorway all day.

Long time ago i had an old tractor on a pump that ran 24/7 for three months, doubled the oil change interval but it still looked like new when it came out.

Im sure there is, but is there a write-up on the process for the transfer case fluid change ?

Do not overtighten the plugs when you reinstall. (you will crack the case). Make it finger tight, then turn another 1/4 turn. You can reuse the original plugs.

Assuming this is consistent for 2015-present? I have a 2019 BASE
