According to my conversation with a sales associate today (after his review of their tracking software) , my Macan4 is finishing production tomorrow. Still won't be delivered, however, until September. That 3 month time period between completion and customer delivery is way longer than usual, and it's unclear which part of the process is responsible for the delay. Vehicle certification at port?

one guess software… VW/Audi/Porsche are struggling with the non-Mechanical-Engineering aspects of the modern EV

A report (https://www.manager-magazin.de/unter...7-68b7fe48a484) by Manager Magazine [paywall] described Blume's reaction to the Audi Q6 e-tron as "a catastrophe." Meanwhile, Porsche switched to using different software (https://www.autoevolution.com/news/p...es-208308.html) to distance itself from Cariad.

The Audi Q6's software was the biggest cause of reflection for Blume. According to some test participants, the car displays were not always wor
king, reflecting the software issues that have plagued the Group's vehicles for years. Just like the ID.3 was produced with incomplete software in 2020, the Audi Q6L e-tron assembled at Audi's new factory in Changchun will also be parked on overflow lots until the software issues are ironed out.
but it’s just a guess

My understanding (also a guess at this point) was that it was more tied to an official release date + wanting to have enough cars ready to deliver vs dropping them one by one.
I have read about the long delays of the Macan due to the software issues but based on all the testing done a few weeks back by the different reviewers, no one called out the software as an issue (rather impressed with how responsive it was).

The AutoEvolution article mentions Porsche is not using the same software as the Audi so hopefully we're safe on that end.
But maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part?

After searching for a new car for months, I finally landed on Macan 4, I live in SF and was calling all the local dealerships but none of them had allocations/availability and the best estimates for delivery I got was early 2025. Wanting the car sooner, I was able to find a dealer in LA that had allocations for delivery in September (which seems the earliest most people are getting theirs?) and just placed my order! Here is my config:

Exited to get my first EV and will be a good lesson to have to do a quick roadtrip right when I get it I guess (My family lives in OC so we go there a lot and will have to do this trip a few times each year anyways)

Exciting choice you made. I love Frozen Blue. If only my wife did..,., You will enjoy the Macan being a great combination (IMO) of it being a true Porsche yet EV advantages too, So looking forward to ours — but we will be way, way behind you.

Please keep us informed as your order turns into delivery pictures and more.

I like your build, e.g., very little unneeded, just performance. Know you will enjoy it.

there is a wealth of information about road tripping EV's - both the rennlist Taycan forum and the direct Taycan forum can help you…

pro-Tip - start with having one of these –
Amazon Amazon

I prefer this one - but it's more pricey…

Amazon Amazon

I've driven Northern Ca to Southern Cal all the time - both 101 and I-5 north/south are fairly easy gigs for an EV - one stop can be done if you're super careful - 2 stops easy peasy with one of the stops not being a full 80% charge - just some electrons to have a buffer for the last bit…

pair it with a bath room break and you're good to go…\

this thread should get you started…
