Randy Evans is running SM now? Bwahahahaha. It's about time he realized that RX-7's are inferior. Great -- just when I thought I could come back on the scene and actually win. I know Randy well. We're not exactly best friends . . . but . . . he's one of T.E.A.M. Racing's instructors, and I have an open invite to hang at their place anytime I visit Lake Tahoe area.

Bummer about Andrie. That poor guy has the worst luck sometimes. This axle breaking episode reminds me so much of the 2005 season when he kept having one after another problem. I hope that bad luck is not repeating for him.

Sorry Frank, but I have no sympathy for ya if you didn't get strapped in on time. Quit taking naps at the track! Rofl. I'm surprised, actually, that you were late getting to pre-grid / the hotpits. The last time I raced with NASA I was in pre-grid for over a half hour. Talk about severe irritation. Next time make sure you print up a schedule and get there on time.

So that's what happened on Saturday, eh? What about Sunday?

Randy and I chatted briefly @ tech/impound. Maybe you can ask him about my driving and my personality. Since he's a neutral guy you might be able to get un biased opinion.

Best lap over the weekend officially was 1:55.9 during Sunday's race. I'm not so sure I got any clean laps during Sunday's qualifying and race due to traffic. I just looked over my datalog from Sunday's qualifying. It shows that best combined segment time of 1:54.1. Andrie's best in this car last year was 1:52.x. Since I'm using old tires (2002 tires) and still getting comfortable with it... I think I'm doing fine. The stock factory gear type LSD is pretty much useless coming out of T11 and T7 tons of inside tire spin. Once I upgrade to a gear type I'll have a lot of speed coming out of the slowest corners. There's a LOT of performance improvements left, for whatever reason I was only sustaining about 0.9g under braking before locking them up... blame the driver/oldtire/bias or whatever... but there's 10-20% more braking to be found. after Sunday morning qualifying FartMachine and I weighted in at 2360 lbs. I only need to be at 2250 w/driver. I removed the passenger headlight assembly (~10 lbs), used up a good 4-5 gal of fuel, so figured about 2300 lbs w/driver at the end of Sunday race.

the car is a decent foundation but there a lot of signs of wear and tear; now that i put it on track I know there's a bit more work to be done. this car was first built in 2002 or 2003 and ran 1 or maybe even 2 25 hour enduros. also raced H1 for few years... for the money I picked up the car for I can't complain.

That's an impressive list of excuses, but isn't your plan to turn pro like your idols Randy Pobst, Craig Stanton, etc.? I guarantee you that in their whole lives, Randy, Craig and those guys were never 9.5 seconds off of the pace. Heck, even back when my car was underdeveloped, and on tracks I'd never been to I was able to get a LOT closer than 9.5 seconds, and I'm just an average club racer.

You can't compare your theoretical times to Andrie's actual times. Andrie's theoretical times are undoubtedly a copule of seconds faster than his actual times just like everybody else.

Not bad for the car's debut. After a test & tune day or two and a few simple upgrades (#1 priority is getting the braking to my liking... i break deep/hard/late) we'll see if how it goes. Do you know how long Craig and Randy have been racing? Like 20-30+ years... This is technically my 4th w2w weekend. Just getting warmed up.

Actually, I totally understand about the LSD situation in turns 11 and 7 -- and in 4 for that matter. My first race in my own car (used to rent) was in an open differential. Holy crap that thing was slow in tight corners compared to the competition. I had a fresh engine and all, but without the LSD, I was losing positions any time someone was near me in a tight corner. So I chucked in the $1000 (plus labor) to get the MazdaComp LSD and I've never been happier with the car. In fact, I still sometimes forget that I CAN power down in turns. So if that's your reason, Frank, I understand. However, I could have swore I saw a best time for you on MyLaps as a 1:56-something?

But if you believe that you can get close to Andrie, you're going to need to equip your car like he does. A few seconds makes all the difference. Heck, even a tenth of a second counts. Like the adage goes, "Speed costs money. How fast ya wanna go?"

I highly doubt that... Andrie's been pushing and driving hard for few years. Few 10th of a second maybe. But no more than 1 sec.

I'm totally confident I can get the car into the 1:52 or 1:51's with out too much $. I was on well worn RA1's stamped in 2002. When Andrie ran 1:52's in this car he was on fresh 225/45/15's shaved. Like I said, have some patience. a LOT more to come.

Everyone else had a nice support crew and tow'ed their car to the track. I was a 1 man wrecking crew and I drove my car to the track and droved it home. I'm very happy with how well the weekend went.
