A slightly juiced normal 3.8, slightly juiced 2.5 turbo 4, a massively detuned GT3 based 3.8/4.0, or the new 3.0L TT engine in the new Carreras, OR a tweaked NA version of the new 3.0 flat six.

My prediction is a derivative of the 3.0 motor either with or without snails. It's a sweet engine for sure and I'd like to know what Porsche could do with a high revving NA version. Or heck, I'll take the TT as I LOVED it in the Carrera S I recently drove. Thrust basically all over the tachometer which would be a nice change of pace from the flat feeling under 5k rpm current 3.8 in our GT4's.
You would be right if we were talking about a true GT4.2, but the rumor suggests a GT4 RS, which is not only a successor, but a step above a "regular" GT4. So a power bump bigger than 20 hp seems to be in the cards.

2019 Porsche 911 will use only turbo six-cylinder engines and get hybrid

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/ne...and-get-hybrid

this may apply to the Cayman - the question is will a GT4 or GT4RS in the works and what engine will be used (4CYL Turbo or 6CYL Turbo)

I'd wager 3.0 tt from the 991.2 Carrera S. Worked decently well in the past.

As with so much else here, so much speculation. I've been around when comments like the ones in these types are articles are said...and there is a lot of wiggle room. "Oh, we meant all STANDARD PRODUCTION versions of the 911 will be turbocharged after 20xx..." 982 GT4, 982 GT4 RS, 982 GT4 "X", etc...992-1 GT3, 992-1 GT2, etc....it's just too soon to even really guess. It may be fun, but we've seen the guesses come back wrong again and again and again.

As for the 991-2 turbo 3.0...I like it better than any of the 991-1 engines, including the one in our GT4s. It's really good, and NOT laggy. Have yet to drive a 991-2 that I don't like better than its predecessor, and I didn't feel that way about 991-1 vs 997-2.

I placed my deposit with the local dealer for a GT4RS yesterday, for MSRP. First on the list, but the GM said "I'll take your deposit, but its not even a car yet". I believe it's less than 50/50 chance they make it, but I still would love to get that car!!

Still, it's a reasonable investment to let the deposit sit there for a year, just in case they build it.

They are not gonna build a RS. Waste of money.

^ I also do not see them building one. Not a waste of money if they put a serious engine in it but i just do not see how this fits in their line-up

Agreed... They would never let it encroach into 911 Territory.

The last GT4 was priced close to the base 911. I can see a GT4RS priced close to the current 911S. There was obviously more demand for the GT4 than Porsche anticipated and they aren't going to leave money on the table given out how much VW is paying out for diesel-gate.

Also, the GT-cars without daily driving comfort options target a different customer base than the road going 911s.

Is the dealer going to pay you interest on your "investment"? If not, then what you are paying is an option price equal to the opportunity cost of the money sitting there for a year. May not be a bad price to pay for the option of being first right to purchase the car if it materializes.

Not the OP that you replied to but I have had my deposit for. a GT4RS at a non-CA dealer at MSRP for over a year and a half.

Having zero ROI on the deposit is a very small price to pay to have a chance at an allocation from a dealer that actually stands by their agreements.
