It makes plenty of sense. No intelligent buyer would expect his purchase to remain superior to the next generation of a car. The various iterations of 991.1 should be compared to one another, not to future 991.2 versions.
A 911R was a very good buy at MSRP - in retrospect, it may not have been a good buy at 3 or 4 times that amount (paid by some in the secondary market). That should not be Porsche's responsibility.

An NA motor that makes 450 ft-lbs needs to be about 5.2L in displacement. And no 5.2L Flat-6 is going to spin to 8,500 rpm. So, you need a Flat-8 (minimum) and any road legal Cayman with a Flat-8 is not going to weigh 2,800 pounds.
It's nice to have a wish list, but it's important to understand that what you're asking for would necessitate a full carbon tub supercar that costs around $1MM and would destroy Porsche's efforts to meet fuel consumption and emissions limits in the near future.

Also I doubt you need a flat 8 to get those numbers. 125-150hp/liter is done pretty regularly on NA motors now.
plus the italians have been doing 5.2l V10's that spin to 7750 since 2004 and 5.0l from 1994.
*sacriledge* but i'd be ok with a turbo 6 and same redline. Just drop some compression off current motor. Easy right =)

Plus I have a few friends on the legit Porsche VIP program who will make a call to Porsche NA on my behalf if needed. Haven't called in that favor yet. Waiting for the new GT models to come out to see if I need to ask that favor.

Agree that price is a potential concern if they go the GT3 engine route. Hopefully it stays in check. The GT4 is now what the GT3/RS used to be, that is, a track day king. The RS has been price bloated and mostly overtaken by speculators and hand wringers so they are rarely used on track these days.

i'm kinda like whatever on the car show guys. Its their money. If they want to never touch a track, just go to shows and thats what they enjoy whats the issue? They are gonna take a bath on the cars if the new RS is offered in manual and they paid way over sticker. Let them have their C&C fun.
In the end these are all emotional purchases. Whether bought to be seen or bought to run 60 trackdays a year, wish all the owners happiness. Plus, People buying 991.1 3RS's, breaking them in properly them driving like a granny means more clean cars for sale later. 😼
Do agree sportscars in general are losing the plot. Smaller is better. All makers are bloating size. If the Cayman platform becomes what I think it could become (or likely even if it doesn't) i hope Porsche doesn't make it huge like BMW, Lamborghini, Ferrari, et al. The E30 M3 was perfect size, small/nimble/fun. Current M4 feels like a GT car and is as big or bigger as a late 90's 5 series sedan!
I guess the reason is only 5-10% of sportscar buyers actually want to drive a sportscar. Other majority want to be seen in a sportscar, do burnouts (ahem hellcat with what, 245 section tires that I watched do a 20 second burnie and leave half his tread in pilled rubber on the street! To be fair I'm childish enough where if I bought a Hellcat I would also do ridiculous burnies until rears were gone then put the biggest rear section that would fit on it.) and/or randomly do freeway pulls to 150. There should be a law that says a sportscar can't weigh more than 3200lbs wet. Friggin "sportscars" that weigh 4-5000 pounds. Lol. Those are GT cars.

whatever makes you happy 😊
i tend to agree cars like these are made to be driven hard. I bought my GT4 used w 4k miles and previous owner drove like a grandma. Fuel economy was in the 19mpg range iirc, max lateral g's were .86 and .68, 0 in every range on over rev report, tires were even wear all around, etc, etc. I could smell the cosmoline burning off for a few weeks after purchase. Thats how light this car was driven before me.
Good for me, im pretty sure it had a perfect breakin. Can't wait to put on a dyno and see what the engine does because I have religiously let it idle to temp, drive a bit of warm up then wring the everloving hell out of the thing (trying to make something break before I toast my warranty with some marshmallows). That combined with the light breakin should (fingers crossed) lead to a really strong stock motor.

Burning Brakes
And the only other cars that did it in recent memory are the 458 Speciale and 918 Spyder (again, IC engine only).
Forget about 150...

Yup, even the 540C has the same carbon tub as the P1.
Uh, I don't know about "pretty regularly". I can't think of any other current NA cars besides the GT3 RS/911R and LaFerrari (only taking its IC engine into account) that make over 125hp/liter. Not the GT350R, not the Viper ACR, not the Huracan, not the Aventador SV, not the Aston Martin Vulcan, not the F12tdf...

458 Speciale 132.7
918 130.4
458 standard 126.7
gt3 125
gt3rs 123.3
f12tdf 122.2
R8 V10+ 117.3
Huracan and F12 116
New Huracan Performante should be in the 120's
if the Italians can do it surely Ze Germans can as well with their engineering wizardry. =)
