Rumor has it that the 991.2 GT3 will get a 4.0 NA engine with formal announcements within the next couple of months...
Will this leave room for the 981.2 GT4 to inherit a detuned version of the 991.1 GT3 3.8? Anyone have more info?

As for the next gen gt4, it has been debated ad nauseam on many threads on these forums. Short answer is nobody knows.

A 911R was a very good buy at MSRP - in retrospect, it may not have been a good buy at 3 or 4 times that amount (paid by some in the secondary market). That should not be Porsche's responsibility.

I think it's completely a function of where the motorsport GT4 program goes. The way they keep the costs down is to make it nearly identical to the street car. Maybe that was the spin put on it before, but it made sense to me.

I do not think any one knows any thing with complete certainty.
With the RS and the R using a 4.0 why would not the 991.2 GT3 adopt that version. One less engine to manufacture. No 911 R Owner would be pissed because they wanted a wingless street version of the RS with a numbered plaque and that's what they got. It is tuned differently from the RS and so will it be from the GT3.
Will the next GT4 stay NA or will it go Turbo??? Too early to tell since it is still 2-3 years away but my bet it will stay NA. But- I have no interest because I do not like the rear of the new model.

IIRC the 981.1 GT4 wasn't offered with the PDK since its NBR time would've encroached too much on the 991.1/GT3. Porsche likes to maintain a hierarchy as we all know. A detuned GT3 3.8 would be too costly IMHO, but I can see an increase in power for the next version. Whether it'll be an X51 derivative or something else only those in the know know.
