GT4 G81 Transmission Failure
#1066
The build date is June 2016. I will have to check the mileage when I get home but I believe it is less than 4k miles. In terms of track time, I am not going to comment on that issue until the transmission has been replaced.

Who knows - may just depend on the particular person who reviews the claim on that day. To be safe, if you can do it, consider returning the ECU to a stock tune.
Someone on RL said Porsche had released a service bulletin or something like that on the transmission, so seems like that should work in your favor.

3 out of 5 GT4 transmissions died on a German Trackday organised by Porsche Sports Driving School, all 2016 models. This is just embarrassing.

My 3rd gear just failed and I wanted to ask a couple of questions before I bring the car into the dealer for replacement.
1. Has anyone had problems with a warranty claim on the transmission with the dealer or Porsche citing headers or a tune as the reason for denial of the claim?
2. I would love to have the dealer install a lightweight flywheel and clutch when they are in there. Of course I would pay for those parts myself, but I was thinking they should not charge much for labor to install since they will already be in there. Has anyone been able to convince their dealer to do that for them?
3. Anyone in the DC area who has had their transmission replaced, it would be great to know where you brought the car for the work. I am inclined to go to the dealer who sold me the car but I would still like to get a few opinions from members.

Just an update on my case.
The dealer, Porsche Prestige in Montreal, were great. No issue about track use (it broke on the track).
I described the failure (third gear just disappeared on track), and the service manager explained the procedure for the fix right away. No hassles. Turns out they already had 3 GT4s repaired.
The transmission was sent to Germany for verification. That took 4 business days. They got the OK from the factory for the rebuild, and it should be ready by Friday - 2 week total turnaround.
While the failure sucks (I missed a bunch of DE events), Porsche and my dealer Porsche Prestige handled the situation amazingly well.
