strut tower failure

The good news is that if you use a Porsche certified shop that uses the correct-and-car-specific frame jigs, the repair can be perfect and indistinguishable from original.

Can you share what happened on track when the damage occurred?

Thanks for sharing. Is that a tall leading edge of a berm that isn't intended to be driven over, or just a normal berm that you use every lap and this time it popped?

I'm wondering if the cars to which this has happened were lowered. Maybe the struts are "topping out" (bottoming out?) going over berms and other bumps, and transmitting that impact into the strut tower. The struts don't seem to have much of a bump stop.

I was hoping this thread had died never to be resurrected again. Ugh. Glad you were able to maintain control and no injuries or crash resulted from the failure.

Old google pic but if that hole is deeper yet and you hit it I'm not surprised we saw a failure.

Here's are pictures of the beginning and end of the Turn 9 curbing at VIR. These were from my in-car cam last month. I try not to hit the beginning of curbing (usually doesn't make sense since the apex is normally after that anyway) and will make sure to avoid this one, that's for sure. That's a pretty big hole in front.
I just looked at the video again and that curbing doesn't have much in the way of rumble (gator) strips compared to other turns. See the third picture of turn 7.
My speed at turn 9 during a fast lap is 113 mph.

One thing is for sure....those motorsport reinforcement plates will be going in before my next track day, and I will be taking it easier on the curbs.

There were several cars this past weekend with NNJR that have had bent wheels at VIR due to this ,mine included, one GT4 had a tower strut failure as well...not sure why VIR won't have a perm fix to it?
