Gt4 awesome at COTA but sad ending :(

It's more than a few...I've personally witnessesed 5 fail at COTA alone in the last 3 years. While not hysteria, your taking a calculated risk in thinking it's not an issue.
per the engine in the GT4, there have been more miles put on the design, but it is by no means bulletproof either - though it seems more of an assembly quality issue than design issue (like the GT3 suffers from).

Out of curiosity, were the failures you saw blown engines or limp mode/warning/light deals?
I have 38,000 miles on my 9A1 and most were on the track. Hundreds of other people have had similar experiences. 9A1 engines have been raced extensively at club and pro levels worldwide.

i can imagine it's tough.. but at least you have full warranty coverage, it could have been worse. thank you for sharing your story so openly on the forum, very useful for others.

Dang OP, that sucks...Glad Porsche stepped up! You were asking about the "rest" of the motor and metal shavings, I grew up with a NASCAR driver (I know insert banjo music here) and know the engine team well, there is NO WAY to know if a shaving (microns in size) is going to end up on a bearing surface without completely taking the engine apart and tanking it clean. First thing I would do is blackstone lab the oil that is in the car now...I keep a sample tube in my glove box (although I am normally tracking a GM car, not my Spyder) just in case there is a failure, so when the warranty denials start I have a hammer (If not my fault). Obviously Porsche is going to do what they are going to do, but I would have SOME concern about metal contamination. Just my $.02
