I don´t really want to know how race headers might sound..the sports headers
are already amazing. Still quiet in cruising mode, simply music when kept beetween
3 and 5K, and pure racing wide open. Can´t really express how happy I am about
THAT SOUND.
Fitment was a no-brainer in my case, all holes perfectly lined up and a 10mm T-Socket
was the solution for the hiddden bolts.
All in all, by far best mod for the GT4, period!

Can bolt on 3rd party headers improve on Bernard's work?

I believe most of what that article is referring to is how the car sounds from the outside. See the mic in the top right corner?
I agree that the GT4 sounds great from the outside.
My complaint is that sound experience doesn't translate to the inside.
My 981 Spyder sounds awesome when in the cockpit, whether with the top up or down. That's because most of the outside sound (which is the exact same as the GT4) can be heard inside.
When I have a helmet on and have the windows down for track days, I basically can't hear the GT4 engine/exhaust, so most shifting is done by memory/location/occasional glance at the tach.
My goal with the race headers was to get to a sound level that I could hear with helmet on and windows down but still have a streetable sound.
Before the headers, I had PSE turned on all the time (street and track). I think that I will have PSE turned off on the street most of the time except for fun backroad drives and then turn PSE on for the track.

Here's a quick video of how my CG race headers sound with stock PSE. PSE was turned on.
I'll try to get some better quality sound this weekend from the track.
Road was damp so I short shifted at about 5k.

YEP! We just finished a track only GTS with a full race system and it's really really really loud inside and out BUT the sound from the outside is epic. I usually put a lot of sound clips on our instagram page if you scroll through. http://instagram.com/bgbmotorsports. Thanks for the clip John!

Yep - that be loud. Sounds amazing
^I have sport headers with a valveless exhaust and it is also pretty much perfect. It only starts to scream above 5000 so can be kept tame, when needed. But, sounds just as amazing when you also lift off the throttle, while it gurgles and farts, not matter how fast or how low/high in the rev range

Race Headers - Bring the Indy500 to wherever you go. Bucolic farmlands? YOU GOT IT. School zones? NO PROBLEM. Harris Teeter? ABSOLUTELY.

OK, as promised, here are some drive-by videos of my GT4 with the race headers and standard PSE from a GoPro...
Me coming onto front straight:

And here is some sound going around the track. My microphone is taped to the back bumper so it's much louder and more tinny than you hear inside.
I am a very happy camper now -- with a helmet, I can hear the engine/exhaust perfectly. PSE closed with a light throttle, it's hard to tell the race headers are installed.

Just did my first track experience at Laguna Seca at a race class. I have the Cargraphic sport headers with stock PSE exhaust. I was flagged for 96db on the 90db track, I would say the sound is great. LOL
