Default Golf R as DD??

Anyone here have a new Golf R?
I am thinking of getting one with a manual gearbox as a DD.
I test drove one and a GTI.
I think I like both cars but not in love with either. Hard to love any car for me anymore....
I don't DD my GT4 even though its not bad as such. I honestly dont like the attention it brings....I'd rather just enjoy it as a weekend/fun car and track toy.
I now DD my F150 but grow tired of it at times.
The Golf R seems like a decent compromise of practicality and fun at a decent price.

I think this (with MT) may be my next DD. Seems like a good choice. Not a huge fan of my M235 X drive, and kind of regret it.

I bought a mk7 GTI for the wife and like it a lot. A colleague of mine has the R and while I haven't driven it I could only imagine it's that much better. I was considering one for a little while but I can't have two golfs in the house. The M2 has my eye at the moment. My e92m is having some weird boschian nightmares lately.

If I needed a DD I would buy a GTI or an R. If track performance isn't a factor, I think they're the best single car you can have in terms of their blend of performance, practicality, styling, comfort/convenience, tech, and price. I've come to learn from my wife's Mini that hatchbacks are wonderful things, and of course that's not even a particularly large hatchback. If you already have an F-150 then cargo transport may not be a factor, but they're still sweet cars.

A bit more expensive but I would also consider an M2 BMW for DD.

Golfs are great too though but I never felt that compelled by the driving experience.

I currently own a 16 R MT , and previously owned a MK6 GTI. Have to say that I bought them for my sons, so I have driven them occasionally , but loved/love them both. Somethinig about that hatch feel is good. the interior is decent, the drivetrain feels a little bit soft, but overall great cars. I see you live in virginia, if you don't need all wheel drive, drive the GTI with performance pack , I drove it and it is very close in performance to the R. the reason I am saying that is the R is difficult to get and most likely you will pay MSRP , vs the GTI is not selling well at all and you can get heavy discount on them so the price difference might be substantial.

The M2 is definitely a good bit pricier but RWD is a must for me.

Like pitt911 says, discounts are steep. I got 10% off the cost of the car. I did have lots of leverage though since my VAG dealer gave me zero discount on the GT4 (not that I expected one)

+1 on Performance Pack. Apparently that VAQ diff is magical, plus the GTI weighs a lot less if you want more of that tossable feel.

I've been tempted in getting a GTI with local DC area dealers offering 20% off cars sitting on their lot, especially in 6-speed manual. Co-worker just grabbed a base GTI S for basically 20k+ttl. Too bad I don't have a need for a daily driver right now in my life.

Ha, I'm going through this dilemma right now. I've got a GT4 but want a daily driver that's fun, has four seats and is fun enough to take to the track. A 997 is on the list but the Golf is there too. I was thinking about a Ford Focus RS but they are hard to get and a bit too flashy for a DD (for me anyway).

I daily drive a stage 1 MK7 GTI. Have had it since 2014. Love it to bits, the perfect daily driver. Sometimes I think it feels faster than my GT4!
