And RE: the watertight I just mean that I would be able to run through a powered carwash/laserwash without having to hold the top by hand.

It appears that the pics are from someone really close to the project, if not inside.

The action of the top is by far the biggest mystery.
I don't want a powered top, but I would love a top that is more watertight.
And, why is the back decklid camouflaged? What the heck are they hiding under that center piece?
That said, it does seem like these are pictures of an actual product.
The front brakes are GT4 sized, the front spoiler is similar but not as deep so perhaps lower downforce.
It looks like they won't put a rear wing on it, which would spoil the look.
The biggest upside will be finding out how big the engine is, and how light the car ends up being.
If we see a 3.8 in this thing, the market will be even more anxious to ****** them up, PDK or no.
I agree with you - especially about the 3.8, although I think the brakes might be off the C2S rather than the GT4.

No doubt it's someone close to the project but if we have seen it so has THIER boss and I wonder how well received these disclosures through pictures were. Do you remember the Apple iPhone left at a bar a few years ago?

The fact people are stating another round of pictures with even more detail could be forthcoming without a possible Porsche AG release statement just makes me chuckle ( not at the post but the premise)

While I like the idea of a better top nothing is going to make me sell my 987 Spyder. I have a 993t that I am selling to buy and make room for either a GT4 PDK or finally breakdown and deal with how to bring a RS500 into California.

I think the deckled camo is hiding cleavage of the humps... I suspect a hard crease versus the smooth contour from the original... Brakes are actually the 6 pots from the Carrera S not the GT4's... The rotor drill patterns are the giveaway on that. Front bumper is a direct take from the GT4 minus the lip which is modified for better approach angle. Rear gets the duck tail from the GT4. Rumor from the UK is that numbers will be even smaller than the GT4... but we will see.

These are planned leaks from Porsche themselves to generate excitement and get a read on what people think.

Donovan,

big lines for the GT4
how many people are "on the list" for a 981 Spyder? (start a new thread?)

maybe they need to generate some "more excitement"
and please tell us how that top works

cheers,
Steve

Because that is what Porsche always does with every car.

Nah... my bet is Shanghai...April 20th. NY is too soon if 4/1 is the web launch.

Shanghai wouldn't make much sense either, they prefer larger luxury cars not two seat roadsters with an impractical roof.

I think they will keep leaking it and get 30-50 people around the world in a pitched frenzy and suddenly the online configurator will be linked and they will send out a tweet!

Apparently that is how it is done now.

This past Pano did mention China will surpass the USA in total sales next year. I wonder how many of the sales are 991/981's.
