Actually, if you take a look at the comparison shots that Eduardo posted, it looks like the GT4's rear wheel sits further back in its wheel well relative to the three other Caymans.

But it's tough to know for sure just by eyeballing it.

Just looks too low and close to the rear deck lid. Higher wing would also create more downforce no??
Might not be able to see at all out the back window, unless they made it MUCH taller.

That was the excuse for allowing the wing in GTC3 to be raised this year--better visibility out the rear.

I think Aisin Japanese gearbox too (unless I missed them returning to Getrag).

Is it really Aisin? I had an S2000 for eight years, and that had the best manual transmission I've ever driven -- didn't want to get rid of that thing. It was made by Aisin.

Yep, Honda had nice manuals. I liked both the S2000 and the NSX boxes.

The engine is definitely Porsche (but even many parts for that are outsourced)

The S2000 had one of the nicest shifting boxes I have ever driven. Both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Miatas were great too.

They never stopped using Getrag in the 6spds. All Caymans and Boxsters get them. And I've never seen a Drexler LSD in a Porsche. GKN has been their supplier since 1996.

Car manufacturers typically only manufacturer one thing: the engine block and its critical components (intake manifold, crank shaft, pistons, piston rings, etc). They also design the coach (most of them do, anyway) and handle most of the assembly.

"Secondary" engine components like turbos, fuel pumps, radiators, and so on are all manufactured by outsourcers, though often times to specifications supplied by the car companies. Wheels, tires, brakes, exhausts, fuel tanks, suspension components, airbags, radios, nav systems, and pretty much everything else that makes a car is supplied by a different company.

Are you guys speccing CF trim on your cars or just sticking with aluminum?

I can't decide.

I have brushed aluminum in my Audi S6 and quite like it. Staying with the standard offering on the GT4.
