718 GT4?

My breakdown in enjoyment allocation:
I can break the sound down further into components:
- Color: 5%
- GT mystique: 10%
- 6MT: 15%
- Redline: 15%
- Wing: -10% to +40% depending on mood and nature of onlookers
- Sound: 45%
I can break the sound down further into components:
- Acceleration and high RPM wail: 20%
- Pops/burbles: 15%
- Intake suck on auto-blip and quick rev: 10%

Could you give us a breakdown showing how the "enjoyment percentages" get reallocated as wing allocation shifts from -10% to +40%? No need to do it for every percentage change; it would be fine to just chart it for every 5% shift. We can interpolate for the interim percentages.

For some perspective - see graphic below. I have added the 981 GT4 acceleration curve and have it displayed relative to the 718S, 991 Series II Carreras and Series I GT3/RS (all PDK VBox). For reference, current data for the GT3 (PDK) plots between the curves for the Series I GT3 and the Series I GT3 RS.
For those of us that are looking for the performance - and if Porsche maintain the same bench mark e.g. similar to the 911 S. We get back to 2 options 4l NA or 3ltt, the alternate would be a very wound up 2.5l (~170HP/l - note. 1; GT2RS ~ 180HP/l note. 2; all other turbocharged Porsche Sports cars have HP/l less than or equal to 150HP/l).

The only cars that matter to compare with are Cayman S and 911S. For 981 the gap between these was 75 horsepower, both NA. Now it's 70 horsepower and both are turbo so about the same.
981 GT4 was 15 below the 911S, so we can expect roughly the same gap now. Depending on where they go with the 5 horsepower smaller gap it will have either 400 or 405 horsepower. 160 or 162 PS per litre. About what they've done with their "regular" turbo engines thus far, like the 911 Turbo S exclusive for example which is physically the same the engine in the regular Turbo/S. As I said before the fact that the 2.5L has a single turbo and 4 cylinders to work with as opposed to 3 cylinders for the 911 turbos makes it easy to match or slightly exceed specific power of the 3.0/3.8 without being laggier.

The only car Porsche built with an output significantly greater than 150HP/l is the GT2
TTS ~ 151
TT ~ 142
GTS ~ 150
718 GTS ~ !44
718 S ~ 140
718 ~ 150
If it is to be on par with the current S in terms of overall performance and recognising the S has (or can have) RAS and PDCC then it will need more mumbo. I can't see a lot of point in a 400HP turbocharged GT4 with a 2.5l engine, even more so if the rear suspension set up isn't improved along with the front strut mountings. I wouldn't worry about lag its a non issue (having owned two variants of the 9A2).
GT4 with 2.5 at 150HP/l = 375...........

True, but we can expect them to aim for 991.2S performance. Which they would achieve with a bit less horsepower just like last time. A good 10 to 15 secs off the previous car's Nurburgring time is about as generous as Porsche gets.
Porsche quotes PS, which is close enough to HP, and easier to count with given the nice round numbers.
But even in actual HP the TTS Exclusive Series is closer to 160 than to 150 per L (157 and change) and they didn't even bother altering the TTS engine itself for that.
The sample size of Porsche's 4 cylinder turbo engines in recent years is also not exactly huge is it? For reasons I've already mentioned a single turbo 4-cylinder engine or a twin turbo 6-cylinder are not exactly the same thing when you think HP/L and drivability.
Neither can I, but the 4-banger Spyder has led to quite a bit of confusion and what matters here (for what will actually happen) is how Porsche sees it. And there are many angles that could make Porsche go this way rather than the way we want.
The only car Porsche has pushed out with greater than 150HP/l is the GT2

Thus Porsche will deliver a car with a GT4 badge, that is affordable but will not perform in GT4 class. They will offer a GT4 class based car akin to a cup car e.g. the equivalent of the last CS.
The counter argument is they are currently producing 3ltt and 4lNA engines in volume. Having said that - I'm not particularly optimistic they will offer an appealing package.

My first post after following this thread for a while.. I am on the wait list for the new Spyder (first in my local dealership). If this thing turns out to be a 4-cyl, will either purchase a 2016 model, or take the money somewhere else.. I hope this isn't the case. However, I do believe that there is hope to get the Spyder or GT4 NA variant. I do recall a dealer leak from Australia on twitter asking people to reserve their GT4 RS now. If there is any merit to that story, perhaps Porsche will be releasing the mid-engine GT4 in 2 different variants. 4-cyl turbo for GT4, and 4-liter flat six on the RS variant. While this scenario is very feasible for the GT4 side of the fence, I am bummed out right now because I just don't see the likelihood of Porsche releasing a RS variant of the Spyder. But fingers crossed..

There will be no RS variant. However there might be a PDK added to the line up.
If the spyder goes turbo, it will still be a good car and faster then the 981 spyder.
I still would rather have a 2016 spyder with X51 power kit added however.

At the end of the day the GT Dept. will build what ever the corporates ask them to build.

For what its worth, AP said there wouldn't be a GT4 RS because it wasn't possible to fit another variant in to the production line-up/schedule. From memory he said this at the release of the GT3. By the same token the GT Dept. team told a group of PCA members the GT4 would be NA (at a meeting last year - a RL member has it on video).
At the end of the day the GT Dept. will build what ever the corporates ask them to build.
