Contrast with the below, written in black and white, from Porsche.

That was a world debut of 992 in LA, no concrete answer until US 992 deliveries occur. Theoretically all new models produced after Sept 1 should have gas particulate filters per EU 6b regulations.

I am sure i will get howled down by all the experts but I was told at the 992 launch over the weekend that the engine is all new. Completely redesigned from the previous 3L turbo engine, more compact etc. Could it be that the reason for the delay in releasing the new GT4 is that it has the same engine and they didnt want it out there until the 992 saw the light of day?

Its just a thought, probably wrong but hey who knows....

Good point Chris, anything is possible at this stage as they haven't mentioned anything so far..

I still believe that an intro will happen this year. If they wait til next year they may have to redo the EU crash test due to new requirements. But then again that could be good because it may force them to address the strut tower issue.

I am still skeptical of the NA. One of the previous articles mentioned an all new engine and the clubsport got released with a modified version of the previous engine. Since everything else in the lineup excluding the GT3 has gone turbos I don't see why they would spend the time and resources to develop a new NA engine....

CAR understands the engine powering the GT4 is the company's 3.8-litre twin-turbo boxer six, tuned to develop around 450bhp.

Before you click the link, guess when this was posted

Wouldn't it be classified as a parts bin engine for the most part and not a new NA engine?

take the basic block, give it new internal part numbers, heads, intake and crank. Vola’ “new” engine.

Maybe...I just seem to recall in one of the posted articles where someone from Porsche stated it was not the engine in the CS and previous GT4. That leaves several possibilities and from what we have heard it doesn't sound like a 9k screamer. Parts bin 4.0L is possible but it sure is quiet going around the Ring. Maybe the particulate filter sucks up a bunch of noise and that's what we see running. It just sounds very turbo muffled to my ears so I am not ruling that out just yet. I hope the deliver an NA monster.

After watching those videos I'm betting on it being the 3.0L turbo motor, maybe it's for emissions reasons that they can't go N/A due to its high volume in comparison to the Cayman/Boxster worldwide sales. In 2016, most Cayman sales were GT4's, not base or S versions.

The head of Porsche GT Customer Motosports (Matthias Scholz) was quoted as saying that the new road-going GT4 would NOT be sharing the 3.8 liter engine of the CS.
This was back in January.
