No - they wait until it fails

That's why there are so many for sale and why no one will want them out of warranty which is starting to expire. If Porsche has admitted in an official service bulletin that these transmissions are faulty, they should do a recall and replace them all now instead of leaving those who own them out of warranty holding the bag.

Please feel free to list the reasons why there are so many GT4s on the Australian market and why so few are selling. Likewise why there are so many 991.1 GT3s on the market.

I live in Australia and won't go near a 981GT4 or 991.1GT3 - I have seen far to many problems with both. I am directly aware of 3 GT4 failures and a fourth in dispute plus two 991.1 GT3 failures.

I note how slippery the dealers are too.......
At least read the posts...he said a warranty extension was the cost of two tires....

Traded mine this week. Purchased new in Jan 2016.

The 3rd gear issue had ZERO influence on my decision to sell.

Porsche should extend the warranty for the transmission but why replace them all if the manufacturing defect doesn’t effect all transmissions?

Yes they should - but they won't, they have actively chosen to let consumers wear the risk for their mismanagement of QA/QC.

Did you you stick with Porsche

Yes

I, like many others, think Porsche will remedy the failures. So, I don’t see a lot of risk for owners. But, similar to the 991.1 GT3 engine issue, an extended warranty would show ownership by Porsche and would support their product in the marketplace.

That could work too. I assumed that it was possible to identify which transmissions are faulty (by VIN or part serial number).

I think is not the same as I know 😀 I do agree Porsche should take ownership of the problem, acknowledge it and offer a gearbox specific extended warranty.

Unfortunately, with issues like this and the 981.1 GT3 it's hard to be generous when they have failed to be open and honest in a timely fashion. That's a reflection of a poor executive and management culture.

I look on with interest to the release of the 718GT4

A lot of complaints from folks who don’t own GT4s about 3rd gear failures. I can’t recall any current owners posting about being concerned with it.

Enough with the broken record. We get it, you guys don’t want to buy one.

Agree. Absolutely would not keep me from continuing to own or purchasing a GT4.

Right? Can we just get back to arguing about the diffuser and taillights?

If for some reason my dealer screws me on getting a 718 allocation, I would buy a well maintained 981 GT4 out of warranty without hesitation.

We're not complaining because we're too busy enjoying them, people that don't have one don't know what they're missing out on.

Very much agree with you Jim. Love mine and dont have any intention of changing it for the latest and greatest...

Merry Christmas mate.
