Yes it's fixed, it was a weld issue with 3rd gear only. They have diagnosed it and fixed it. The affected ones were cars that were built in 2016 and not 2015.

So I'm still confused. Did the 2015 cars have a different 3rd gear design that doesn't fail early???

You really need to search.
The 2015 had the proper weld and 2016 builds did not, ie they were faulty.

Thank you very much. I have searched and have read the transmission failure thread multiple times.

Why on God's earth would Porsche change the design to a faulty one????

Porsche didnt. The gearbox is made by Getrag not Porsche. During a batch of production there was a fault in the welding process not caused by a change in design just a fault in the process which didnt get picked up.

^ So does this mean that anyone with a 2016 GT4 can just get their transmission replaced for free under this bulletin, whether broken or not?

And if after all of that, you’re still worried, get a warranty! Few hundred quid per annum.

At our price points buyers don't want the risk of failure (in a GT4 or 991.1 GT3). Its a matter of common sense in my view. Also, this is further compounded by the imminent release of the 718GT4. Why get caught holding a car out of warranty with a known problem.
Porsche are fixing all 3rd gear faults even if the car is out of warrenty free of charge. So dont worry, not an issue!

How do you know this? Almost all cars are still under original warranty. The part about "even out off warranty"

I recall mooty and orthojoe had a broken third with their late 2015 builds.
Even if Porsche doesn't pick up the cost after warranty, instead look at it as an opportunity to fit a shorter gear set.

In terms of sales no, not 14:1 but the GT4 did massively outsell the GTS, did have a different owner profile (far more people buying for short term) and the new GT4 is coming out soon with an NA engine whereas the new GTS had the turbo 4 so GTS owners are hanging on whereas GT4 owners are looking for the last in the line. There’s a number of good reasons why there’s a bunch of GT4’s being sold atm, fear of the gearbox failure when warranty extension is less than the cost of 2 tyres isn’t high on the list.
Replacing a gear box does not equal the cost of two tires - Porsche replaces the whole gear box (in fact the gear box is not new but refurbished) not just the cog - there are good reasons for this.

Please feel free to list the reasons why there are so many GT4s on the Australian market and why so few are selling. Likewise why there are so many 991.1 GT3s on the market.

I live in Australia and won't go near a 981GT4 or 991.1GT3 - I have seen far to many problems with both. I am directly aware of 3 GT4 failures and a fourth in dispute plus two 991.1 GT3 failures.

I note how slippery the dealers are too.......

I have not heard of one transmission being replaced that was NOT broken.

The GT4 transmission is shared with Audi, Audi don’t require welding, just press fit. Porsche require welding and a few Audi transmission were sent to Porsche. Getrag don’t know which one were affect and why the mystery, and Porsche don’t know which car and how many are affected.
