Not a GT4, but this new 718 Boxster mule (Boxster T?) is sounding pretty good to my ears. Sounds like a 981-like NA 6 to me, unlike the muted tone of earlier GT4/Spyder mules. If Porsche really announces a non-GT 718 Cayman/Boxster with a NA 4.0 motor, I’d be super excited. The sound, performance, and excitement of a big NA motor, paired with the everyday bad road practicality of a regular model.

In Australia a 718 GTS is $200,000 AUD on the road. That's $143,660 USD. For a four cylinder that sounds like a Subaru.
Once you're at 200k, there is a huge world of cars that open up, including lightly used 911s of various vintages and models.
My desire to spend that much on a flat four engine is zero.

Not only is it funny, it's also essential.

New car price
i wouldn’t be too sure of that occurring in Aus, imo the 718 will move up from the 981 4 (when new) price by circa $40k so the price gap will still be significant between 981 and 718. It’s likely the 981Spyder will take a bigger hit given it’s current ask in the used market.

There are loads of GT4s on carsales - people don't want them out of warranty in Australia - thanks to the very real third gear problem. A problem that should not occur in a 225k car. Hence you will see a ratio of around 14:1 GT4:981GTS on carsales.

In the absence of evidence that the transmission has been totally abused, my bet is that Porsche fixes the 3rd gear regardless of warranty status. At least that's what I'm hearing here in the States. Cheers.

Good luck with that bet - if they are so open why don't they offer a specific extended warranty as per the 991.1 GT3 😀...........a 225k car should have a reliable and fit for purpose gear box. Porsche should do the right thing by it's consumers - yet it repeatedly fails to do so other than when held to account.

I’m being told in Canada not to worry about the 3rd gear as Porsche will fix out of warranty, too. I don’t know how accurate that is but people in the know are saying it.
Im not worried. Every car has something that tends to go wrong and Id rather this transmission than most of the other Porsche problems.
