"Mimo is now known in-house as MSB-M, short for modular sports car matrix, mid-engined version. Earmarked to go into production in September 2015, the Porsche 960 would therefore be based on the same components set as the next 911 due in 2018.
How come? Because this new components set incorporates a second bloodline labelled MSB-H with the H standing for Heckmotor, German for rear-engined.
Mimo architecture: from VW Bluesport to supercars
At this point, little is known about how and to what extent the new architecture differs from the short-lived MSS modular sports car system reserved for the next Gallardo (2013) and the new R8 (2015). It certainly needs to be more flexible to make provision for two different engine installations, and it probably needs to encompass three different size and cost patterns to span the full line-up from the VW Bluesport over 991 and Gallardo to the Murcielago and the new Porsche 960.
To further complicate matters, MSB must be RWD and AWD compatible, comply with various bodystyles and materials, and be capable of accommodating inline engines, flat fours and sixes as well as the complete V6/V8/V10/V12 spectrum. .."
end of days..

Did any of you guys read the article in June Panorama talking about the 960 Project making the 911 a mid engine car?
Sounds interesting but if you hated the 991 then this mid engine 911 might put you over the edge.

Oh yeah. The dorks that complained about the 991 are surely not going to like this one either. "It lacks the pendulum dynamics of the 911, it's too big, it's too luxurious, blah, blah, blah........."

I heard some rumors here and there about the 960 fefi project as being a supercar in the carrera GT style or some kind of boosted 4 door Panamera..
Curious about what the article says

They are not saying it's going to be a super car but hold true to the 911 roots; just moving the motor in front of the axle. It will also be a 2 + 2 with the back seats and a little larger. They've been arguing and bending the rules regarding the laws of physics for a long time but the guys racing the 911 are looking for a car that will keep up with the pack in the future according to the article.
I guess I prefer to have the pendulum dynamics in the back rather than the front but I can also understand why the racers want a more balance 911 especially with the amount of HP's on hand in GT3.

Yup, I read it. A quick synopsis for those who don't get Panorama: The crux of the article was how long can the 911 go on as a rear engine model which, according to the author Michael Cotton, is a "triumph of development over design"? It sounds like the 960 model designation for the mid-engine car and the 2015 date are based on a German automotive industry writer's (not Cotton's) speculation. Apparently the 960 designation was also originally used for a special development 928 back in 1981 which never happened, so make of that what you will.
My take from reading this is that this new 960, if it appears, would be a 911 replacement, and not the mid-level supercar that it is rumored Porsche wants to slot in-between the 911 and 918.

the real question is if they will offer a motorsports version.....
This thing looks like it could rule D.E and it could win a tarmac rally if a cage was possible....![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Right up my alley.

With 4 turbos 4 wdr and modern GTR type electronics and an 8speed paddle tyranny it will be Porsche's GTR Nring killer
At 3000#s I will bet it can get close to a 7:10 Ring time
