Rennlist iRacing thread
In the price range you need to talk to GuyIncognito who is the expert I believe on such things. Once you go above about $2k in total cost, it really opens up some incredible options IMO. My entire rig was done for less but it is not a cockpit, just a desk, 3 monitors and the W/P setup.
For Cockpit, I would recommend the Obutto: http://www.mainperformancepc.com/
For PC, the same place. They know iRacing very well and can even pre-install/configure it as well. Top quality gear and service for sure. Ask directly for Micheal Main and tell them Chris from CXC sent you
The Fanatec CSR Elite stuff is great for performance, but their reliability can be a bit shaky. It does seem to be improving as of late. The alternative is the Thrustmaster T500: http://www.thrustmaster.com/en_US/products/t500rs
Good luck!

Have you gentlemen ever considered the Humanracing GT Chassis?

Oh yes! that looks great! Any estimate on when it will be out? How about details about the car itself? I haven't heard much about what exactly we will be getting. Street tires, DOT R, or slicks? RWD, AWD, both?
I'm looking to get started with iRacing. I have a seat which my wife bought for me years ago and I have a decent steering wheel that I got as a gift. I hooked up an old PC and got a "month" account and it was horrible.
Obviously I need a new PC. Any recommendations between $500 to $1000? I don't need a monitor or anything else, just the PC.
Went on the iRacing website and you would think they do a better job of recommending something. Any help? Thanks.

To give you an idea for specs, this would run iRacing quite well -
