Not sure I want to spend $1,800 on a Accuforce wheel. can you guys recommend something a little bit more for the "budget oriented"?

OK, looks like
a) I need to play with the FF settings
b) pump up the volume
c) I picked a bad, super twitchy car, so I guess I start with the base 2015 Miata, I tried the RUF but with 650+ hp and maybe twice as much torque as my car it's so insanely fast that it's not even remotely close to my ride.
That's definitely a VERY old wheel.... one that's even only 270 degrees of rotation. You're giving up a LOT with that equipment.

If you want to go cheap, the Logitech G27 (er, G29, now?) is about the minimum standard for most people. Nice thing is, for ~$300 it gets you a wheel, pedals, and a shifter. The pedals are pretty terrible, as is the shifter, but the wheel is OK. Certainly light years ahead of your Momo. I haven't heard of people mentioning that wheel in a LONG time!

HoBoJoe above recommended Fanatec stuff, and I'd agree, that's where things start to get a little better. They just released their "entry" level Fanatec Elite Wheel Base. I have not had the chance to try one, nor have I seen any reviews, but it's still likely a nice upgrade from the G27. Downside is, it's a-la carte, so you're buying the base, then the steering wheel, then pedals, etc.

I personally have the Fanatec ClubSport V2 wheel base, and it's served me well for the last ~2 years.

Trying to be budget conscious, and knowing you're intending to also buy a Rift... I'd suggest this:

Logitech G27/G29 wheel for $300
Leave the included pedals in the box, and buy a set of Fanatec ClubSport V3 pedals for $300

That will get you going. Upgrading from there, I'd recommend a better wheel (Fanatec ClubSport, or greater). Next step from there would be even better pedals.

As for the RUF... the RUF AWD/RWD's are hard to control. 600+hp plus they're modeled on street tires.

I think the last time we ran LRP we universally agreed to never run there again. Tight and total crash fest.

Still, I'm down for wherever. Just happy to get back into the swing of it all.

I joined another league (guys I ran the LeMans 24 with), they've got a separate sub-group doing Dirt Rally. I've never found myself so PISSED OFF at a driving sim before, LOL. Nothing like 60 minutes and 20+ retries to successfully complete one 3-minute long stage.

We also had a lot of participants when we did LRP last time.

What is this Dirt Rally you speak of?

In VR it's insane. If you think you're a somewhat decent driver, this game will change that for you and realize you're absolute sh*t for a driver. The amount of times I've unexpectedly caught air and blurted out, uncontrollably, "OH SH*T!"... well... more than I can count.

Have a good stage and it's insanely fun. Get a tough stage and it's MADDENING.

Honestly I walk away PISSED OFF more than I walk away satisfied. Yet I keep coming back. What is wrong with me?

I'm probably going to need to try Dirt, but I think its interesting that they track the number of barrel rolls :-) Always figured if iRacing tracked the number of cars I balled up it would probably be in the billions if not more.

Ok we're set for Lime Rock Park tomorrow. The start time will be 15 minutes later so 6:15 mountain time. 5:15 pacific... etc.

OK,

Logitech G29 and Oculus Rift on order, should arrive by the weekend
Could someone with a G29 take a screenshot of his ForceFeedback settings, to give me a good starting point and save me a lot of trial & error?

Thanks

Fun race tonight at Lime rock. I miscalculated my fuel, and after Jim made a little slip up and I got back into the lead I realized that it was a 25 minute race (not 20) and I needed to save at least 3-4 laps of fuel. While Jim and Phil were tangling I was trying to do the math and find the switches to switch to engine mode 2. Turns out that really slowed me down and threw me out of 'the zone'. I tagged a wall after Jim repassed me and took my free car from the pits with enough fuel to finish the race under full power again.

I did match Jim on the start, so that's an improvement!

What's next week? Laguna Seca?

We rearranged the basement and my rig is all jacked up now. I will try to join you guys for practice, but I expect the racing in the evenings during the week will be out for the time being.

I'm game for Laguna

Was nice and tight racing, maybe a little too tight... Phil got a little squirrely and at first it looked like I might be able to slide up alongside... but it was a little too aggressive. We connected and it punted him off into the guardrail (damn).

Was fun though.

Here's some video I recorded live from the Rift. First ~8:40 is good.

That rift is pretty slick.

I logged in and ran a little bit of practice but family obligations/I suck meant I couldn't stay for the race. I tried to login as a spectator toward the end of the race period just to see what was going on but it wouldn't let me login as spectator because I had already logged in as a participant earlier.
