Rennlist iRacing thread
As much as it's a shame - I think it's likely worth waiting until we get a bit more interest before we spend the cash (even if it only is a buck or two) to set up a session. I'd hate to have another week go bust with only 2 of us showing up.
It was good chatting with you in the last event, Justin... but with it basically just being you and I, it was kind of a waste. It costs me "points" with the wife to disappear to the basement immediately after getting home from work on a weeknight, especially this week, since she came down with a nasty flu-like virus upon return from Daytona.
It was easier (or worth the cost) when we had a big group.
Folks - if you're thinking about attending then POST UP so we can schedule something!

For me, the usual time is too early as it is prime getting the kids to bed time and you guys run tons of tracks I don't know at all and the effort to learn a track I've never run before so I can annoy my wife is basically insurmountable.
Not that I'm any good, but people like to watch the wrecks.

I tried your setup Jim and really liked it. The cup car still seems to push lots unless it's spinning. Your set seemed fairly balanced, but still drifts wide on long turns. I put in a bit more oversteer with springs and rake and it's pretty good, but the fundamentals are still a bit off. The car just needs wider front tires.
Yeah the car really seems to have an inherent desire to understeer. I've made BIG adjustments to rake over the baseline iRacing setup to get it where it is - that seems to be the best way (that I have found) to dial out a lot of the understeer. The baseline is AWFUL for understeer.
I did notice that it pushed entering the oval, as well as the one right hander that's ON the oval. I stiffened the rear sway a click and that helped (I think it was already +1 when I shared the set with you) - so yes, high speeds it still wants to push. I drove around it, but if I didn't hit the mark EXACTLY it would head for the wall unless I lifted.
When I've made changes to clear up some of the understeer and get the car more neutral, it becomes a total bear on the brakes tho. I've had better luck leaving the understeer where it is, and trail-braking deep instead. The car turns in *really* nice with just a light toe dragging on the brake pedal as you turn in. So far it's the only car I've found that will do it nicely. (It would KILL me when I'd jump into the Track to run our league nights, that car would swap ends if I trailbraked like I do in the Cup)

I was going to mention that. I trail brake in this car way more than any other iracing car. I'm trail braking all the way to the apex, then romp on the throttle and ride it out of the corner like a bucking bronco. It shakes, shimmies and hops across curbs, but as long as you don't lift it can be controlled. Fast hands are needed for this car.
What do you think about just following the IMSA series (in iRacing) calendar?
That way at least if not many people show up, it works out to a private test session for those participating in the series that uses the C-Spec. Plus it takes the guesswork out of picking tracks.

Sure, I'd be up for that. I have to admit I'm really struggling with the cup car when the weather isn't quite perfect. In the RUF CUP fixed series, I really like it. I can make that car behave, but left to my own devices the car never drives quite right.
I just finished an 80/20 rig with new Fanatec CSW & BMW GT2 wheel setup.
I'm also focusing on mastering the Ruf Cup & Track.
Would be interested in knowing when you guys schedule your events.

We don't have anything scheduled right now as it seems like the interest in our league night has softened. I've been trying to diversify my skill set over the last few weeks with lots of different cars and tracks that I don't usually frequent. It's hard to hit the top of the time sheets, but a heck of a lot of fun.
I think we'll stick with the cup car for this group because the 'track' GT3 car is being retired next season for official races.

New release out yesterday. Few new cars + beta DirectX 11 support.
The new Miata is free... and I have to say, it feels pretty damned fantastic. Great sounds, well balanced. While at the Rolex24, Mazda had a mini-autocross course set up with new Miatas, got to drive one... and the one in iRacing has that same exact feel.
DirectX-11 also seems to be doing well. No Oculus Rift support with DX11 so I haven't used it much, though the reviews so far all say there is much improved performance. Lower overall framerate but apparently much "smoother" - no stutters and not as many slow-downs in places that happen in DX9.
Worth a look, guys.
