I got it all updated last night (in addition to iRacing updates, since my rig hasn't been turned on in a while I had a big bucket of Windows updates to cycle through too) but didn't get the chance to play. I pulled up the Ruf at Laguna and did a half a lap just to see what it all looked like - and it's definitely MUCH MUCH clearer.

The DK1 never had positional tracking (fore/aft and side/side) so IMO it's not really missed here in their current implementation of DK2. However, those who have been playing other sims in the meantime (LFS, Assetto Corsa, etc) probably find it a little strange feeling now. I've been playing LFS and ETS (both of which have positional tracking) so it WAS a little odd feeling, NOT having it in iRacing. (Oh how quick one gets used to new features...) But knowing it was never there in the DK1, I'm not concerned, I'll get used to it. It will just be a cool addition once they add it in for DK2. And if you've never experienced it, then you won't know what you're missing.

The cleaner resolution, if that's the ONLY DK2 update, is IMO well worth it in iRacing. You can read the dash gauges now, read the tach, the digital speedo, etc. Can see further off in the distance. Everything is just more crisp. To me, the DK2 is *totally* playable now. DK1, you had to take it with a grain of salt, and put time in to adjust to the low resolution. DK2 is clear enough to be immediately workable.

I'm fully planning on running laps tonight. Hopefully the wife doesn't have different ideas.

I vote for rolling starts, that is how most of the amateur racing start, PCA, SCCA, NASA (but I do think one group does do a standing start in NASA).

Rolling starts also take away the advantage some folks have with a clutch pedal.

I have a clutch pedal and I'm pretty good at starts (and love picking up 2-3 positions on the start!) but I can see it sucking for those who don't have one.

I'll say this: don't go in expecting to see a crystal clear high resolution screen similar to what you see on your monitors or a HD/4K TV. I think the people that complained about the low res went in expecting this.

It's still very much an LCD screen.

I was initially expecting a little more resolution, but I am content with what I have with the DK2 using the various demos and LFS. I have not tried my rig at all, but should have a little bit of time tonight to try it out.

OK, coast should be clear for me to get my rig rolling for an hour or two tonight. Can't go to the all firm retreat because of some expert reports and upcoming deadlines .

Anybody interested in a practice? If so, where?

Interested in practice for at least a short bit. Wife works late tonight so I'm down. Should be home in 2 hours or so.

Game to run anywhere with the Ruf Track.

OK, rig is out of the garage and I am now moving the computer over. Looks like the dk2 is working. Should be on 15 or so.

Thanks for the hosting Jim. I really like how the car handles now and they've made a bunch of other changes here and there in the game, all good.

DK2 in iRacing is awesome, there is no doubt about that. Jim suggested I get a newer card to drive my rift, which I might go ahead and do tomorrow since Microcenter is fairly close to me. Maybe a 770+ card will make a difference; maybe MSI or EGVA or whatever brand is available for reasonable price.

As for head tracking, do not want. There is enough going on with the movement that I would not want to move forward or backward.

As most have already said, the resolution of the OLED panel is really the thing that is the next biggest step for this to be a "killer" product.
