I watched the review video, sounded like it was a significant leap, but they said its going to have another jump when the consumer version comes out. But that is a year and a half right now, but like anything its going to slip so I'm guessing 2 years.
I pre ordered the Dev Kit 2 this morning...$350 is cheap to tide me over till the retail version. I'll let you guys know what I think if I get mine first.
Yeah I had a bad feeling going into that complex. If a lapped guy doesn't let me go on a straight, I assume I'm going to have to fight for it in a corner to both of our peril. #25 made my spidey sense tingle when I showed the inside and he didn't back off so I tucked back in behind to avoid the pinch. Then I saw you coming up the inside even harder and completely bailed out on that corner taking the slow outside. I knew you were going to be in trouble in the next corner pictured above because you were going to have to fight your way past #25. I was just going to chill out and pick up the pieces on the next straight. It was unfortunate that you didn't make it out of the corner though.
I'm a very patient person and racer, but I will take calculated risks with lapped traffic when I'm in a battle for position. There was a fight earlier too that didn't have to happen, but that was an easier pass at the end of the back straight.
Cliff notes: If I'm lapping you with someone close behind me, I will be much more aggressive and put both myself and the lappee in much more danger... but make no mistake I'm coming by.
I look forward to it Tom. We have very close races. We seemed to have different fast spots at Road Atlanta. You had me licked going into T1. That's my normal brake point and I must be overslowing there, but I feel like there's not a lot of margin left to go into it much hotter. I was frequently losing the back end on entry there in practice.
Yeah you brake earlier and harder then roll in. I turn in slightly brake some and then carry up the hill getting on the gas on the apex curbing inside on T1. Thanks for the setup, I liked it a lot better than mine.
The Rift thing looks very tempting. Jim what is the resolution of yours compared to the new one?
Well you can't get the Dev Kit 1 anymore (aka DK1), which is what I have. The screen is 1280x800, but it's divided in half, one side for each eye. So each eye gets 640x800. I'm not gonna lie, it's fairly fuzzy and takes a little getting used to - but you eventually do. I did.
Keep in mind that, for DK2, it's going to be released in July. That's right at the beginning of an iRacing build schedule. So figure, if the iRacing devs are the first to get their hands on one in early July, it's going to be 12 weeks until the next release before DK2 is supported. For that reason I'm opting NOT to upgrade to DK2.
All along they've been saying that CV will be released in Q4 of '14. They haven't said it lately, but also haven't said otherwise. At this point I'm figuring that they won't be far off. Especially considering every video I've seen so far has them pretty adamantly stating "NOT FOR CONSUMERS!"
Phil you're local to me - maybe one of these weekends I can bring my DK1 over to your shop so you can try it out. It'll give me a chance to experience the buttkickers.
Standings are updated with the last 2 races. Sean made a BIG jump this week and is now firmly in the thick of the midfield battle. Well played race Sean. Glenn had 24 incidents and gets to wear the pink paint of shame next week.
Now for the awkward part. I'm crowning myself champion for season 1 as I'm mathematically un-catchable now.
I'm thinking the same thing, that is pretty damn cool. That car your chasing looks familiar.
Oh, Sean sorry for exiting the pits in front of you, I thought you were going to be further behind, then I was so worried to get out the way I forgot to brake and just ended my session.
