Would it be possible to shorten the practice, then max out the time for the race but have a specific number of laps in the race as opposed to a time limit?

In the other league that I run, I used to do something like this:

30m practice
30m qual
60m race or XX laps.

The big practice seems to be hurting the feasibility of racing at that time for a few guys.

Using the relative box is critical to set up for and allow clean passing too... Good way to see if someone is gaining on you quickly... Using this box should be mandatory IMO.

I think 60m races are pushing it for beginners, myself included. We're trying to keep it simple and fun so that anyone just starting out will have fun. Also, a longer practice time should equal a faster cleaner race.

Agreed, the 40 minutes of qualifying and race is the critical part. I just fill up the rest of the 2 hours with practice. It's when do we want that 40 minutes to start is the question. Next week that will be 9:20 eastern with open practice from 8:00 till then.

I'm still really happy with the field we had turn out yesterday, easily the biggest ever even though not everyone could make it.

I like the 8:00 start much better. I had a beer after the race to settle down and I still had trouble falling asleep by midnight.

...The race wouldn't be 60m, 20 or so laps at 1:30 a lap would be a half hour. I just meant set the upper limit at 60m.

Default Good Racing !!!

Hi All,

Just my two cents, I had a great time last night for a newbie at racing. I have been into i-racing a long time (and GPL before that) but never did much "racing". Mostly practice as i am pretty slow and was more concerned about ruining someone else's race with my bad driving.

I watched the replay and it seemed everyone was doing their best to run clean and not cause mishaps. Was much fun and I was in a good battle with Andrew for a few laps until I ran out of talent and spun.

I like the idea of starting at 8:00 pm as i'm an east coaster and have to get up early for work on Thursdays. The idea of a 30 minute race sounds good with 20 minute qualifying and the rest practice. I know i'm splitting hairs here and am fine with anything decided.

Looking forward to the next race, and thank you Justin for hosting.

Regards,

George (SpeedBump)

A screenshot (literally... iPhone pic of replay) chasing Pmason through the Corkscrew.

PS - LOVE the paint, Phil. I like the newer "PORSCHE" script on the tail and the "GT3 Cup" script too.

Once Mo signs up (MoD here on RL) he'll take the Patron livery (it's his car afterall) and I'll do something else - I will steal the PORSCHE script idea.

That's a sweet paint scheme... I'll stay with my boring old Guards Red until my laptimes determine I need something that looks faster. LOL.
