Default Engine degreaser

Spring is approaching and I'd like to undo 100,000 miles of underhood engine grime. Previous owner took great mechanical, exterior, and interior care of the car but the underbelly of the motor is another story.

What's the best choice for a strong but engine- & paint-safe degreaser? Castrol's? I did a quick search but didn't find much.

Thanks again.

HI,

Try using Simple Green. Easy on the car, the environment and the wallet. It does a very nice job on most grime. I'm sure others will have ideas for the really nasty stuff, but try this first.

Just put it in a spray bottle and start spraying, let it sit for 10 minutes and then rinse

Thanks Phil. Full strength Simple Green in a spray bottle?

I've been a fan of Simple Green for a while for around the house stuff but was unsure if it were strong enough for this sort of project.

I think you must keep castrol's purple cleaner away from the paint... It does a nice job though

Simple green in diluted form works good. I use it to clean my engine allthe time...

3 parts simple green to 1 part H2O in a spray bottle...works great and smells a wholw lot better than Gunk!

Another point about Castrol purple. Wear gloves. I used it on my wheel wells and it almost took the first layer of skin off.

Where can you find Wurth's? Internet order only? The major chains around here don't stock it.
