It never seems like it will end. In 2020 Mercedes built upwards of 50,000 GLE’s and stored them waiting for components. This turned out to be a catastrophe. I just read that Ford has some 40,000 trucks built, stored and waiting for chip related components. Porsche is pushing back build dates again.
The chip shortage seems to be everywhere and predictions on it ending keep getting pushed back. Is this as crazy as it gets?

Hard to believe anyone would want to spend $80k+ on a Porsche and only get the standard (aka bad) audio system. I'm surely holding out for a Bose or Burmester. Apparently they are the only Porsches currently being made at all are with standard audio.

Agree! Why would I spend $100k to order a vehicle with a crap audio system? One of the big reasons I canceled my order and found a great pre-owned Cayenne. It’s got 24 mo remaining on factory warranty. Hopefully by then this chip issue will be fixed and I’ll order a proper replacement.

OK, I want to get to the truth here...I put in an order with my local Porsche dealer only to hear that Porsche will not accept any orders for any vehicle that includes a Bose or Burmester. In other words, I can't order right now. I call a different dealer in another state who says, no problem we can order and get it by Jan/Feb but may have a wait a while after it gets here because of the chip shortage. So is there or is there not a stop in production of any Porsche with Bose or Burmester?

This is what happened with my 23GTS:
Was unable to order Burmester "Stop Hold"
Order date was early July
Car was at dealership early September
Bose Amp was delivered/installed a week later

My only complaint is that I could not order the Burmester.
Timing is obviously key, and the uncertainty of supply chain challenges can be very frustrating.

The Hold on Bose/Burmester must be constrained by model. I was at my SA’s desk an hour ago when he got a return call from a client with a new allocation for a GTS. I overheard that the Bose and Matrix lights were among the options accepted on her order-nothing was rejected. The projected build date was March 2023. I quizzed him to make certain that I heard him correctly.

I just asked my salesman about if amps were constrained my model a few days ago and he said all orders with those options are being held. Either he’s wrong or something has changed as far as availability.

I was surprised because it doesn’t make sense to constrain one week and open back up a week later. One factor I just thought about is that this order was probably in the system and an allocation became available-so it wasn’t necessarily a new order. That might be the difference here.

Default Porsche - Bose Amps direct to US

My Porsche rep told me today that Porsche NA is going to re-route sending Bose Amps made in Mexico directly to US. Today they are sent from Mexico to Germany and then back to the US.
This should shorten the timelines to get this missing component into the US cars are missing them. Should find out more next week.

So Mexico to Germany to USA. Sounds like the USPS is their preferred shipper?

Good to know there may be a speed up on the Bose amps. I wonder if it’s the same issue going on with the Burmester? I’m anxious to get an order in! Please keep us informed with any new info.
