Which fluid is best the Porsche or the Ravenol? Read entire post and seemed to go back and forth.

I think there will not be any clear answer about ravenol vs. 'porsche' oil because there is only the few anecdotes from who uses ravenol... The main thrust of this thread and issue is that even Porsche's recommended oil is not enough to prevent serious problems when used for as long as Porsche recommends.

Oil is like underwear. The brand is less important than ensuring you change to fresh clean stuff regularly.

I think you've got the answer right there more or less. When I did mine at about 80K I used the Ravenol and it made a big difference. I'm planning on swapping it again on the next change but will be using the Porsche stuff since I got a good deal on it via eBay sale a while back.

Love it. Gonna steal it for oil debates on BMW motorcycle forums...

For the transfer case gurus here, when center diff lock is engaged what happens inside the transfer case? How does it lock it up? Troubleshooting and annoying cold driving issue and the info may be helpful.

What is interesting about Libson is that they strengthen the mercedes transfer addressing poor OEM designs.

My friend's 2015 GTS needed a new transfer case after 11K miles! Yikes!

The electric motor maximally presses on the clutch pack. If you are trying to diagnose a transfer case problem, it's easiest to unplug it and see if the issue persists.

Replaced my TC exactly a year ago. Brought it in to the dealership and was told that the TC is gone again. Drove around 10k since last replacement. They have to order a new TC.

From the info I've gathered from online stuff and my own experience, I'd say the fluid life is 10K miles on the short end. So if you drive in a manner outside of constant freeway cruising, a 10K-mile fluid interval is prudent if you want to keep your transfer case from failing out of warranty.

Just check. I’m at around 9k. Issue started when the weather started to get cold around October. So it was around 5k miles.

Overheating/hot fluid is what brings about the transfer case symptoms. What was your "issue"?

2016 Base Model with 51k miles. I just got TC #4 a couple weeks ago... Called PCNA and raised hell. Dealership is always nice and fixes it right away, but when the warranty is up, how much "good will" are they going to show? They opened a case and the dealer worked with them on the latest replacement, so at least it's documented for after warranty repairs, but this is unacceptable from a company like Porsche and such an expensive vehicle.

That is ridiculous. Out of curiousity, what were your replacement mileage for each TC? Had my TC replaced at 33k and was planning on replacing the fluid this month at 50k as routine maintenance every 20k based on a past post. There is a post above about doing it every 10k.
