GNAT, that is true in California for a car after the first smog test.
I found the following from the California.gov website:
Owners of vehicles six or less model years old will pay an annual smog abatement fee for the first six registration years instead of being required to provide a biennial smog certification.
https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/vr/smogfaq
What I received was an actual requirement for a physical smog test.
I wonder if this is a change for all diesels, just Porsches or am I missing something.

We have had to smog one of our 2013 CD's once already in CA and just got the notice for the other one today. Must be diesel related as it looks like gassers get a six year break until they have to be tested. With that said, the test is a joke as they don't do much other than look under the hood for any obvious hacks, goose the throttle for a subjective "smoke test", and then check if the OBD system is working. No dyno, no sniffer, and more revenue for the state. Goofy. We'll see if I run into any trouble with the scandal afoot but I smogged my older CD post news break and the tech didn't say anything about it.

I don't think we're on any special schedule with the CD's as it seems to be the same inspection schedule that I have for my Dodge Cummins diesel but it's a 2006 so who knows why we didn't get the standard 6 year exemption that seems to be the case for the gassers.

Let's say for the sake of argument that the settlement is signed off in ~2 weeks from now.
Porsche dealers then re-flash the ECU and certify the results on the 2015/2016 Cayennes that have been held in inventory pending resolution.
Will it be that a sudden glut of CDs on the market will depress prices - and given that the cars are 1-2 (soon to be 2-3) model years old and essentially brand new, how will the pricing model materialize?
This could be a very interesting market - especially for buyers.

I doubt so by the way the 2015 VW diesels are being released. Prospective buyers have to inquire to a dealership to see if they are expecting any new arrivals. Looks to me VW is not flooding at all but doing a trickle down to build new interest in the diesels

The prior question was whether Porsche is going to flood the market with unsold "fixed" cars once the fix is approved. He wants a good deal, I guess.
My answer is no, given how VW is dealing with the newly approved fixed 2015 cars. I should have clarified it is the 2.0 cars. VW is not flooding the market with the newly fixed 2.0 fixed cars and I doubt Porsche will do so in the event the 3.0 fix is approved

I had seized upon a low mile 2014 model only to find it had been sold the day before. A little disappointed to say the least. This led to further discussion with the GM one of the local Porsche dealers over the last few days. While they cannot sell the 2015/2016 models yet, he did say that the day is near.
They have a stable of ~30 CDs waiting to be unleashed once the sale ban is lifted. The thing to keep in the back of your mind is that these are essentially NOS vehicles. From a banks perspective they will not likely loan the new value - so the market will (I believe) adjust accordingly. I seriously doubt that the demand is that high to not impact the invoiced price. The GM indicated that he expected the price to become very reasonable - we will see.
And yes, I want a good deal - who doesn't?

I have been following the market on an almost daily bases, the 2015 CD's that come available (lease returns mostly) get scooped up fast and at relatively high prices.
I have access to Mannheim auctions, and there have been a handful 2015 CDs on the auction block since last summer.
I mostly see 2013-2014 CD's with 60k miles on Mannheim, they go in the high 30k to high $40k for low mileage (2014 CD / 20k miles)
Porsche is keeping their cards very close to their chest when it comes to information about releasing the current stock of new cars. I am surprised there is no more information that is leaked out: that's often a good marketing strategy to get a feeding frenzy when it happens. The fact that this has not happened is an indication to me that they might be taken back to Europe.
