The Castrol was impossible to find last time so that’s when I went to the Mobil 1 ESP. I also found it at AutoZone for about $35 and I bought six of the five-quart bottles which was all they had. It’s about 1/2 price of the Castrol so that’s good too. You can get the filters online or at any Porsche, Audi, or VW dealer as they are the same part. At my last oil change I also changed the diesel filter which is supposed to be drained of water every oil change and changed at 20k miles. It wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I didn’t see any water at 20k miles so I’ll probably just let it go until then. Those can be found online for a lot less than the dealers.

Thanks for the reply and after I go through my next two oil change kits from FCP euro, I’ll buy the oil in bulk from Autozone. When I got my Cayenne at 53k miles, I replaced all the filters at once for good measure including the fuel filter. I ordered the siphon to get the water out of it but like you said, it didn’t have any water in it.

My friends who own other diesel trucks change the filters at 10k miles but maybe I can get 20k out of them between changes. I ordered an air filter and fuel filter with the oil kits so my plan was to change all that at the 70k mark and see what the fuel looks like. Thanks for the tips and I’ll let you know if I come across any water.

Curious about this as I experienced a similar issue with my CD -- is your Cayenne under extended Porsche warranty, or did they Goodwill the headlight replacement?

I have an appointment for repair at my local dealership, so just curious if they mentioned anything about it being a common issue or what the cause was... thanks!

I made an appointment with my local dealer to make sure everything checked out, replace the headlight and also perform some basic maintenance work…..transfer case, front and rear differential fluid, and a 4-wheel alignment.

As predicted, the car checked out and all was taken care of. My dealer replaced the front light under the warranty so that saved me a lot of money.... Thanks diesel-gate!

My 16 is still under the bumper to bumper warranty(thanks diesel gate) till the end of this month and is at the dealer as I type this getting its last warranty work addressed.

They completely covered it under that and I’ve seen this problem on a few others. I hope the dealer covers this for you.

Hey All.

Took the Cayenne into the dealer to get it's last warranty details addressed and I also told them to change the oil as I was too busy with work to do it myself. I had a long trip headed out to Rienzi, MS for the week and was leaving the day after I got the car back. I knew my front pads were low but sure enough, the dealer called and said they measured at 3mm. Dammit! Timing is everything and I'm locked into work for the next two months working weekends so no down time….. I told them to just do the work while it was there. 1770 dollars later 😳 I had new rotors, pads, and sensors. The dollar sure doesn't go far in the dealers these days! The tailgate issue not closing still hasn’t been resolved and a return visit is on the 27th of this month. Let’s hope the second time around is better than the first as I’m a little frustrated they did the brakes but not the work it was originally in for.

While I was at the dealer I thought my warranty was up November 2022 but it turns out, my bumper to bumper warranty isn’t up till November of 2023! Woo-hoo!

The car sure did get around this month and I’m almost at the 70k mark and will be there by next week. Crazy!

States covered were SC, GA, TN, AL and MS. Every run I do in this car I’m more and more impressed with this car and it runs better and better the more I drive it.

Before I left for the first trip I put my Liquid-Moly diesel system cleaner in the tank. I’m doing this every 5K miles and I think this is key to keep the injectors clean and happy. I have a quiet smooth start every morning and I have a very responsive engine day in and day out.

On with the trips…..

Runnig this car week after week (five days) still has some amazing numbers….

I always park my cars on an end spots during my hotel stays and hug the grass side but it always amazes me how people love to invade my spaces.

The struggle is real!

I finally pulled the trigger on a tune that I’ve been looking into from the day I purchased this car a year ago.

Tunezilla was having a sale on a Stage-2 Malone tune so I jumped on it. Since the car still has the warranty for another year, I decided to not get the EGR and DPF delete at this time. I will perform that in another year. The tune is something that I HIGHLY recommend to anyone who owns a CD! Night and day difference regarding the delay in the gas pedal…..I hit the gas and it’s instant like all my other cars. Safety is back in the CD and I can pull out in traffic with confidence.

I drove the car with the tune this week and already have 600 miles under my belt and this thing is a freight train on the highway. It pulls and pulls and pulls and the slightest gas pedal movement has the car going and going fast…..without even being in sport mode! Amazing and I won’t ever be able to drive one without a tune again!

I also pulled the trigger on Tunezillas TCU tune they just released and I’m excited to get that installed but unfortunately, I’m waiting for my number to be called as they have a delay getting the tuner tool shipped out to me to get it installed. It’s supposed to allow the CD to shift better than before the diesel fix the dealer put on it. I can only imaging what this thing is gonna be like with the tune and the TCU tune together….win-win!

One last positive note is that I’m finally seeing diesel coming down to 449 per gallon…. Better but hopefully it gets cheaper!

Thats all for now. I’ll report back after my 70k service and I hope to have the TCU tune installed and get some seat time in to allow a full write-up on what I think. Take care and keep those CD’s happy!

My tailgate closing correctly has not been rectified despite replacement of the power latch and both struts. It only happens in cold and whenever the car is even slightly jostled, it completes closing. Annoying but I'm not going to chase it any further.

Love seeing your updates!

I have been told that if you add a tune kit the California smog test will detect it and fail the car- anyone know if this is true/ Not really interested in the tune kits since it feels like the diesel has plenty of power.

Thanks! I guess your warranty is up and you didn’t want to throw any more parts at it? My dealer said they had to “reprogram the tailgate” to get it to close correctly. Before the “reprogram” the tailgate would close fully 7 out of the 10 times. Now it’s 1 out of 10 so I’m pretty annoyed about it. If I hold the tailgate back before it slams closed to slow the process down, it completes the close function. I’m dropping it off to the dealer on the 27th so let’s hope they get it right.

The beauty of purchasing a tune along with the flash module from Tunezilla is you can install your original file back in the car at anytime. You can go back to stock, get the test and then put the tune back in. You think the diesel has plenty of power and I’d agree with you but the instant power and zero delay all while feeling all that extra torque is a game changer. Do it! You have no idea what you’re missing out on.

I usually have a Lexus to go along with my Cayenne and what ever. Why do you drive so much and how many miles per year? Company gas card or deduct miles I hope? Great write up!

I certainly don’t drive for my health because these days, it’s downright scary out there. I average 50-60k miles annually and I’ve been out on the front lines of the highways since 1998. Been with my company since 1996 and was on the road permanently from 98-current. I’m in a small industry that sells and services computerized embroidery machines from Japan. Being in the business for the past 26 years, I’ve become a specialist in my field and so that requires me to travel far and wide to certain customers who have issues on equipment that other techs are unable to correct. I also install all of our larger equipment at most of our returning customers so job security is at an all time high! They can’t come to me so I gotta go to them and the Cayenne is my choice of vehicle for the next few years.

Here’s what one of these machines look like…..

The company reimburses me per mile and since I’ve driven over 1.2 million miles with my cars, I’ve made my money back on every one of them.

I have always used a Lexus as my DD dating back to 2007 but when I started to drive the different Porsches, I realized I needed to get into one as a DD and the Cayenne Diesel was the number one choice.

I had a few Lexus cars and all of them were fantastic minus the two LS models and unfortunately, the LS500 was the WORST ONE EVER!

Best one is my 2007 GS350 (I put 340,000 trouble free miles on it) and I should have never sold it!

Then into the old man 2013 LS460L (hated it the more I drove it)

Then I went to the smaller ES350 (good transportation)

Then I figured I wanted to get into the LS500 with the twin turbo

Long story with this car but I only drove it for 5 months (23,000 miles) and they had flown in an engineer to look at this car with a transmission issue. It spent too much time at the dealer and I was done with the car and it’s issues. Lexus has a long way to go with that car so I worked a deal out with my dealer and got into another car I could pass down to my son in a year.

Along came a 2021 Lexus ES300h

Right off the trailer to my garage and got its full PPF front along with full ceramic in and out of the car. I put 50k miles on that car last year and passed it down to my 21 year old son who works hard with me and in College…..Perfect car for a college kid starting out in the real world!

Lexus cars will always be in our family in one way or another but I’m in love with Porsche from this point forward.

The month of December was a busy one in my field so it was no surprise to me that the Cayenne was due for its 70k mile service.

-Oil and filter
-Air filter
-Cabin filter

I decided to purchase the Liquid Moly 4200 again.

The oil has been a lot cleaner since my oil flush.

She did it’s job.

All you need

Filling the oil filter lines up.

Much cleaner

People swear by this stuff

I’m not so sure the dealer doesn’t take the time to clean the filter housing completely.

Temporary dipstick.

Resetting the computer

Ready for another 5000 miles

Another oil change in the books.

Let’s get on with the air filter swap.

I had purchased a K&N oil air filter to try but I noticed zero difference on power or fuel economy. I decided to go back with the paper filter for ease of use and swapping them out every 15k.

That was easy!

Last thing was to change out the cabin filter.

I purchased a 6 pack of Diesel system cleaner so I’m going to keep on this schedule of adding a can every 5K miles.

It’s got a clean bill of health for another 5K!

Finally got the time to tackle the PCM upgrade. Not sure on all its features at the moment but I’ll know a lot more in about a month and report back on my findings. So far I’m impressed with how much newer the interior of my car looks with the upgraded screen. I still have to make a custom usb setup to read music files since I had to let my beloved CD player go!

Installing a radio in this car is one of the easiest I've done and I've had plenty of experience in car audio.

On with the photos.....

The old PCM sure is big compared to the Erisin headunit. I did my homework on this unit and from what I was able to see, this looked somewhat oem compared to others.

While the old radio was out, I installed preamp wires for my future build of two or three amps with a sub. I figured I would have one less thing to do when I tackle the entire system build hopefully over this summer. It should be a good one once finished but I seem to never gave enough time to do these complicated builds. Time will tell.

Labeled preamp wires are installed and under the dash at the current moment.

Let's see the difference between radio faces.

The radio does have a killer DSP along with time delay and bass frequency adjustments so with the right amps and speakers, this should do the trick for my future build. My car has the garbage base stereo so I can't wait for the day that I finally upgrade this system to a really clean system that I can enjoy each and every day. Thank God I have Stern and other talk shows when I'm not on the phone but I miss my music on a good sounding system.

Here a few photos of the radio.

Apple car play was missed and I'm glad to have it back. This android car system reminds me of the old car computers I use to do back in the day. Its got full wifi setup and using my hotspot allows me to use google maps and…anything else I need to get from a computer. Time with it will tell just how good this thing can be.

It still gives me the factory backup camera and parking sensors and I'm able to use the phone but the phone integration is something I'm still trying to work on. You do loose the phonebook and phone screen on the cluster but I never used that before so I'm ok with that.

The car is currently back at the dealer getting the tailgate issue not closing taken care of for the second and hopefully last time.

I parked it behind it's cousin when I pulled it into the service entrance.

That's it for now.... I've been off since the 23rd and I'm not back on the roads till the 3rd so it's a nice break from the highway running and allows for more time in the 911. 😁

Happy New Years everyone!

This looks awesome. I know you mentioned the install was very easy; was it essentially plug n' play with the provided harnesses or did you have to splice any wires?

Really makes me want to get a unit for my own rig... Thanks for posting!

Clearly you’re either traveling in your CD or doing something to it! Can’t sit still, huh?
