Clock/chrono Second Hand Stem Diameter

ha, just noticed that this is a different clock than the 718 (and 911) sport chrono... in which the second hand is the large dial, and minutes/hours is the small one.
Imagine the sizes are the same for shafts but that's certainly an interesting wrinkle! (Not my car, ignore the dust... mine is missing a minute hand

See! Not saying I'm looking forward to when the second hand on my unit bites the dust, but at least it isn't 'pay to play, 500 dollars plz! ' I had a loaner 21 Macan a week ago and the dash clock is still the same assembly .. it's nice to have options at last.
Not saying I thought about it, but in retrospect, would they really check for a missing second hand? (No I am not advocating anything actionable. The answer is yes, just like they noticed the half a tank of gas missing when handing it off, etc. Jokes aside, no theft of loaner car second hands)

As long as shipping is reasonable, no need for PayPal. Just shoot me an address, my friend.
Thanks, @Abt12 ! Do it! I think the next bit of research is for someone to identify common watch movements that use 40/80 hands (and whatever our minute/hour hand post sizes are). There are tons of hand options out there, but most (especially on Ali & EBay) are labeled by the name of their movement without referencing post size.
@DemonBG , any chance you can take a calipers to @Davebrossi ’s second-hand-only clock and post up the hour/minute hand sizes for ABT/others? I didn’t have the heart to pop them off the wife’s clock and potentially create a new issue (especially when I’m thinking of fiddling with the electrical systems this weekend…on to the next project ).

So @Davebrossi 's clock was the same as yours! the one in my cayenne is the style with a large second hand and a small minute / hour clock... But, i'm here to earn my keep too so give me a few hours and i'll have an answer for you.

Ok here are the details:
For the clocks with the large second hand and a small hour / minute hand, the stem diameters are as follows:
minute hand: 0.39mm (approx 10mm overall length)
hour hand: 1.33mm (approx 8.5mm overall length)
unfortunately on my unit the clock hands absolutely disintegrated when I opened the clock up so I guess it’s time to get it fixed.

I think this thread is done a lot to restore what I have worried has been a trend of not coming together to figure things out. On the one hand I recognize we are not as group solving some engineering nightmare like the causes behind premature pitting of cylinder wall linings in Alusil. Or for that matter IMS bearings. That said this is all been about cooperation and I know there's financial angle, but it's been very nice to see this come together.
When I mentioned this issue to a friend, I suggested I contact Palo Alto, but I wasn't sure they would realistically offer any cost-effective solutions. That is not a dig against them. If say I needed an original VDO turbo boost gauge to be repurposed as a fuel tank sender gauge absolutely. Anyhow..

Demon: Is your micrometer like mine where it tends to deviate 2-3/100ths after each use unless Re-zeroed? I’m sure you’re going to print something cool but in case you wanted to try a metal hand for now: With a quick snip to length, this 1.30mm hour hand may https://www.esslinger.com/watch-hand...e-size-1-30mm/
You may also want to order one of the 1.35 options just in case:

https://www.esslinger.com/watch-hands-to-fit-minute-hand-hole-size-75mm-and-hour-hand-hole-size-1-35mm/
If you go with the sweep (stick) style rather than the pointy (Dauphine) style, I have a matching second (in your case minute) hand leftover that I can mail you. Just PM me your address & it’s on the way.

Mine just went plop….
Just noticed mine is sitting down below 6 o’clock inside the case……gonna need another, unless mine is repairable. 2016 platinum ed base. So is the consensus replacements rather than gentle repair if your second hand is still intact? Been looking for an 18 GTS and this won’t help my case when letting the car find a new owner. Annoying to look at for sure!

- follow the “snip the tip” / “neutering” approach (not my nickname) as mentioned by @twodollardoug and documented in other threads
- OR follow the links in post 67 (http://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-9...l#post18906161) to go the metal hand route.
In the future, a more robust 3D printed version may also be an option.
If you do neither, but just reapply the second hand, it will be fine for a few hours/days/weeks/months, but it will eventually happen again (likely when it’s hot out and—given Murphy’s Law—likely right before a potential buyer comes to see it). Good luck in your repair!

Looks warped enough to not reapply…..
Thanks for the reply…..looks bowed to me. I guess the three times the car has been in the sun for a few hours, no joke it’s usually garaged, this happened like everywhere else with this little guy. How a hand falls off the canon pin in center is beyond me. Falling apart makes sense but popping off intact is special.
Have those who opt for gluing experienced a difficult round two when and if it falls off leaving adhesive residue on that pin?
I REALLY don’t want to go after the thing twice, but like all good things some take practice…..I’ll order a hand asap. Finally my watchmaking skills will be put to use alongside my mechanic skills, not helped whatsoever by my eyes these days.
