Transfer Case Failure
#77
OP,
If it were my car, I would not change out the Transfer Case fluid. Instead, next time you have it at the dealer or an independent/friend that has a PIWIS, I would ask what the wear parameter is. From AllDataDIY for my 2011, "During servicing, the oil for the transfer gear must only be changed if the wear parameter in the transfer gear control unit is > 75 %. -> 033500 Diagnostic maintenance: diagnostic system and maintenance inter."

I hate the service advisor being between me and the tech. Especially in indy shop chains, service advisor will maybe note down half of what I say and then it’s a game of telephone till it reaches the mechanic working.
I have a small 3rd party shop that shows me the state of parts they replace, let me near the car while the work is done, let me pick what brand replacement to use (if not OEM) and never try to upsell me on anything. It’s a small mom and pop shop. Literally, the family come in a minivan in the morning and open the shop. I love that place.

Can you grab the part number off of the transfer case? Should be a stamped number on the bottom of the case closest to the transmission and hopefully a paper one still attached at the top of the case. Should begin with 958....

2016 Cayenne GTS Transfer Case Issue
What's good everyone? Hope all is well. So, I've started experiencing this transfer case issue w/ my 2016 Cayenne GTS. As soon as it started, I came to the forums to look for any information. Well, i've found it here. Sad to say, my 2016 extended warranty ended this time, last year. Since the 2016 warranty was only 7 yrs, versus earlier models getting 10 yrs, mine began failing right outside of the warranty period. I contacted PCNA, via email, to ask about the warranty and see if I had any recourse. From the response that I received, it can be summed up as "you're on your own". Wow...thanks Porsche. This being my first Porsche, after a line of Range Rovers, I expected much more from PCNA. Alas, they are much like any other brand of manufacturers. And, now I'm looking at $4800+ to have it replaced. This sucks.

Something to consider before laying down all that cash to replace the TC.

I agree here to change the fluid first. Our 2016 S had the slipping, jutters feel. Local stealer wanted over $3K to change the TC and didn't even offer to change the fluid. I changed the fluid and it's all good. I plan to do it again at the next oil change.

Vice President, After Sales.
The general PCNA customer service replies are a word salad.

Compare this relationship to the stone wall between the technicians and customers at stealerships.

@Nollege76, you feel slighted because your car's extended warranty offered from Porsche was only 7 years? The early 2011s had no warranty extension under this program at all: not 7 years, not 10 years, but 0 coverage.
Anyhow, you have other options than paying the dealer to replace the transfer case: buy a rebuilt case for $1500 and pay someone to install it. Or rebuild it yourself for $600 in parts. Or as mentioned countless times, change the fluid and maybe you have zero issues.

Apologies for not knowing multi-quote
You are correct. But life is not always that black and white, is it? This transfer case issue is a known weakness and Porsche keeps kicking the can down the road.
Again, you are correct. Recently I was checking out a 25k mile 2001 Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph Park Ward for $45k
Again, you are correct.
