I had a little LOL at 10 years or unlimited miles, whichever comes first 😜

I had my transfer case replaced on Feb.28. Feels great. Part number 958 341 042 DX vent line 958 3010 4711. Was told by the tech that my fluid looked ok, but I had it changed last year at annual maintenance. He said new coating on clutch plates and a mandatory 30K fluid change in the new maintenance requirements. He said apparently the " lifetime " fluid they use is not lifetime. He also stated that the 2014 year transfer cases are the most replaced units at their dealership. He stated that he has not changed out anything newer than a 2019. Here is hoping...

Interesting. This is the first I'm hearing of a "mandatory" 30k service interval for the TC.

Agreed. Mandatory as in brandlj's SA? Porsche maintenance says TC fluid change at 160k.

The fluid is contaminated at a rate that totally depends on the driving style. 30K of freeway cruising does nothing to the transfer case fluid or clutches; 30K of aggressive stop and go driving, or off-roading, is a different situation especially with the non-GNC clutch plate transfer cases.

^^^ agree ,.... & I will add to that list, towing. I tow about 6,800 lbs (enclosed trailer w/ 3k +/- car) about 3-4 times a year & usually for long distances (3rd TC for me so far, at 80k miles on 2012 CTT), plus some boat trailering thrown in for good measure. Love this beast, and plan to keep it long term even if I have to put the next TC in myself.

Fortunately (hopefully this applies to you), the GNC transfer cases are not failing like the prior units.

Technician told me that this will be added to the service list for the Cayenne maintenance schedule.

So if we were to buy, say, a 2016 958.2, would there be a transfer case warranty from Porsche ? Not sure how this works for recent purchases. We currently have an error free 957 base with 161K miles.

The TC is covered, by Porsche, for 10 years from the Mfg. date. So a March 2013 build would still have 1 year left. The letter (above) does not mention my2016 though.

Not all Cayennes have a 10 year warranty on transfer cases. 2011-2014 is 10 years , 2015-2018 is 7 years.
