Default ‘14 vs. ‘16 Cayenne GTS

New to the forum and looking to by a used Cayenne GTS. I was originally targeting the ‘16-‘18 V6 version, but have read good things about the ‘13 and ‘14 V8 GTS. This will be a daily driver and I’m coming out of a Range Rover Sport Dynamic V8. I’m interested in the most agile and sporty version of the two. My current RR is fun to drive but I’m looking for something new. Test driving the vehicles is not currently option. I’d appreciate experienced owners’ real world view of the pros and cons of the V6 vs the V8. Thanks in advance

If you're looking for agile, the '15+ GTS has a V6 TT, should shed some weight versus the V8.

I've driven the '17 'S' model with the same motor, with less power than the GTS and have a 2013 GTS. The torque of the twin-turbo makes it effortless at high-speed, but the V8 holds well also. For sheer sense of occasion the V8 wins hands-down for me. The twin-turbo models are more polished, faster and more efficient in how they go about getting up to speed, where the V8 is a brash brute about the whole thing. The sound is amazing too, it never ceases to put a smile on my face.

The older V8 GTS' are also quite stiffly sprung...but this translates to great handling and very precise turn-in for a big car. I'm sure there's quite a difference between the '17 GTS which I never drove, vs the '17 'S' which I did when it comes to handling - but comparing the '17 'S' to my '13 GTS, the GTS feels more stiff, and more buttoned down. I don't think you can go wrong with either car, it's just they are quite different so you need to find the one which matches which attributes are most important to you. The tech in the '17/'18 version is much better too with the revised PCM.

V8 for the win - I think the 14 GTS will hold its value the best and it sounds awesome. I love mine - haven’t driven a newer GTS but have had the chance with new S model - nice but didn’t make me want to trade mine in for a new model in the least.

Don't have direct experience but my dealer has told me that nicely equipped 2013-14 GTS sell quick. They seem to be desirable because they are the last with a naturally aspirated V8. I would drive both and see which engine speaks to you better. (It will be the '14, lol.)

Default Cayenne GTS

It’s been awhile since I first posted, but I did finally make a decision. I first test drove an ‘18 GTS and a ‘20 S. I preferred the ‘18 GTS, but didn’t want to pull the trigger until I had a chance to drive a ‘14 GTS which proved very difficult to find in my area. Eventually, I found a ‘14 GTS that was owned by the service manager of a Porsche dealer who was willing to sell and CPO the vehicle. I immediately went and test drove it and bought it without any hesitation. The truck is in amazing condition and was my favorite of the bunch to drive. Amazing sound and growl. The other trucks were nice, but the ‘14 GTS stood out.

Congrats and enjoy. What great peace of mind to get a CPO owned by the service manager of a Porsche dealer. Pity that more service managers and sales managers don't own what I want to buy.

almost identical to mine. Except with my wheels I still have the silver lip. I like it without as well! What are the specs?

Thanks for this post! I'm facing the exact same dilemma. Seems like the 14 is slower, thirstier but cheaper and more exciting. Finding one to test drive is difficult here as well. What's the real world fwy mileage with the V8? I don't commute much, mostly longer distance fwy and mountain roads. Looking to consolidate two cars in one (SUV and sports sedan) and the Cayenne is probably the only option.

You made the right choice. I’ve had my 2013 GTS for exactly a year now. I am still totally in love with it.

Great choice.

Those V8's are very reliable also.
