Cayenne S, Error Camshaft Position Sensor
#16
I think you need to check the cam timing. Porsche has a tool to do that (also some aftermarket ones) that goes over some trapezoidal bits of the camshafts. It can only go on when the cams are in sync, and if you lock the crankshaft with the locking pin, you can adjust the cam timing by loosening the large bolt holding the variocam units on the ends of the camshafts. If you don't have an AllDataDIY subscription - now would be the time to invest in one.

I can't say if you might have done it wrong - the tool is used when the engine is locked in place with the locking pin that goes into the crankshaft damper (I believe - I'd have to open the manual to be sure..) I believe It's possible to time the engine so the wrong side is doing it's thing 360 degrees out of sync with the ignition - and not have anything hit internally.

finally the vehicle started, we checked everything again, we found an electro-fan sensor disconnected, it was connected and everything was fine!
Now I hope the spare parts arrive to install and enjoy

Hello from South Africa
I have a 2011 Cayenne S that has just had the same problem.
The car drove perfectly until hot and then started misfiring on cylinder 5 only.
The misfires became more prevalent so I took it to a workshop who tested it and came back with misfires on the whole left bank - cylinders 5 to 8.
they opened the camshaft cover and found the bolts had sheared right off.
This is the equivalent to the WC-22 and the NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V368000.
Porsche in South Africa fall under Porsche Middle East and say they are not bound by the WC-22 or NHTSA campaigns/recalls nor any other country's Porsche repair decisions.
They say it is my cost entirely even though they never had any warnings or repairs related to this camshaft bolt issue.
This seem ludicrous as they have known about this problem since March 2013 - even whilst my vehicle was still under warranty..
One guy from Chile spoke directly to Porsche Germany who authorised the repair - can anyone assist here please?

This way from CHILE, effectively went through that, Porsche Germany did NOT respond.
I had to repair in an alternative garage paying EVERYTHING.
The dealer in Chile wanted to charge all the repair and only give me a discount at the end. They only checked after being repaired, by instruction from Germany.
Although the failure is internationally recognized.

Dear Mr. Pottstock,
Thank you for your latest e-mail from 19 January 2020 to Porsche Consulting GmbH, which has been, as the responsible department for customer concerns within Porsche AG, forwarded to us.
We are in receipt that Porsche Centre Santiago de Chile checked your vehicle after your first attempt to repair it by a workshop outside of the Porsche network. It is our understanding that our colleagues have very carefully and thoroughly worked on your case and provided a detailed feedback on the state of the vehicle after it arrived at the Porsche Centre. Thus, we are glad to hear that after the necessary corrections, in order to assure that the engine runs well again, were performed purely on a goodwill basis without acceptance of liability on 17 January 2020 and that your vehicle is back on the road again.
Unfortunately, we have to advise you that under consideration of all the facts, especially due to the engine repair by a non-official Porsche dealer, we kindly ask for your understanding that we are not in the position to reimburse any works (material and/or labour costs) conducted by a workshop outside of the Porsche network.
Whilst we appreciate that this will be met with disappointment, regrettably on this occasion, we are unable to meet your expectations.
In closing, may we thank you for taking the time to contact Porsche directly.
Yours sincerely

This statemen is confusing. Did you pay for the repair on not?
The letter from Porsche appears that you are liable for the cost of the repair.
