Default Pitted tires--causes?

Hello all. I have Micheline Latitudes, 15k miles, with unusual wear..pitted, chunks out, both inside and outside, taking place primarily on the fronts. Being used in hot climate, sometimes rough roads, but mostly pavement. Could it be that these all seasons get too hot on our 100 degree days here? Or do I have an aisgnment, camber issue? Thanks.

It's either the rough roads or the tires are old. Ive seen this happen on old tires.

How old are the tires? Some all seasons don't do well being driven hard in a hot climate.

Yes I was thinking that too...it is often over 100 here and the roads can be rough. These were installed about 2 years ago. 15k miles total. Tire wear seems to be fairly even from inside to outside but affecting fronts most of all, so was thinking it could also be an allignment issue. I just got new tires...summer Goodyear eagles, so wanted to check with the Board before I installed these.

Thanks. That's both comforting to hear, and a bit disturbing, as it's hard to believe that having pitted tires is normal, though even the asphalt roads here typically have some debris on them....there are no fully smooth roads. Two tires getting near the wear bars, and look much worse than this one changing all four regardless--am located overseas where you are really are on your own if you have a problem.

The new set are goodyear Eagle F1 summer tires. Will let the board know how these work out.

How many miles have you all got from your tires before requiring a change? I've heard ranges of 15000 miles to 20,000 miles is normal.

I had one tire wear similar to that on my wife's CD; it also manifested what felt like an imbalanced wheel at the time. I had bought the wheels (19" Turbo wheels) and tires (Goodyears) used, and we put about 25k miles or so on them. I haven't had the tire replaced yet as that set of wheels/tires is still in the garage, but I was wondering about the cause myself. I thought it could have been a wheel balance issue, a tire issue with something delaminating inside, or perhaps just an old tire. FWIW the other three tires were fine. Had it been more than 1 tire I would also suspect a possible alignment issue.

What are the date codes on these effected tires? It will be shown in an oval with the week and year of manufacture.

Interestingly enough, I cant establish that. It says 200x...that cant be right, I know But, it's fine ...I took delivery of the new tires...I would not drive my family on these latitudes.

Will have alignment and camber checked, and will let board know how the goodyear's work out.

You might consider what we use for street and off pavement:
General Grabber AT 2 On-/Off-Road All-Terrain

Others have tried - BFG All-Terrain T/A KO

We are a bit reticent to try the BFGs as we have taken our General Grabbers to hell and back without issue and they do well on pavement.

Our CD's front tires also act like they are not balanced properly - I'll go check for pitting tonight.

Also there has been a noticeable increase in road noise as speed increases.

Mileage is right around 24K.......

Take all of the weights off and find someone that has a road force machine

It appears that this is becoming pretty common for Michelin Lattitudes. I will not be buying another set. There are way better tires out there for the money. They also start howling in hard turns way before my liking.
