5-27-17 Best Buy turns down installation due to their previous experience attempting to install Chinese ebay products. Says it "bites them in the *** everytime".
6-2-17 Reputable professional stereo shop attempts to install Siecane unit. As soon as the harness for the power is plugged into the head unit, it smells of burning electronics and the head unit gets extremely hot. The stereo shop tells me that the unit is faulty, and that in 30 years they have never seen a stereo get so hot so fast. They refuse to do anymore work on the unit.
I open up conversation with Seicane support:
"I found a professional installer (as recommended) to install the unit shipped to me.
Within 1 minute of plugging in the main power harness the head unit starts to smell of burning electronics and is VERY hot to the touch.
The unit DOES power on and boot up, however I am afraid the heat generated WILL cause a fire in my vehicle. The professional installer will not continue to install the unit and recommends I return it due to this problem. "
Seicane Response:
hello
please dont worry about it. maybe because the weather is hot in summer, outside tempeture is king of high.
we will feed back to our engineers , they will check for you.
My Response:
"This does not have to do with outdoor temp. My stereo will heat up to this degree within a few minutes of plugging in the power harness ONLY. The keys are out of the ignition."
Seicane Response:
"hello
please dont worry. our engineers are testing in car now. "
My Response:
"Have they figured out what the working temperature should be when the car is not powered on?
I need to see resolve more quickly. Not feeling confident that I have a properly working unit."
Seicane Response:
"hello
please arrange a professional person to check all your wire connection, maybe somewhere connect wrong."
The unit functions, but at 160 degrees, there is no way I can feel confident enough to push this head unit back into it's seat with 100 wires and a few plastic connector boxes right behind it.
And to mention this gets hot without the car even being on.... something is majorly wrong.
Opinions?
I think the power harness from Seicane might be wired incorrectly? Why is the stereo even getting power when the keys are out of the ignition?
The stereo should get power when the keys are out of the ignition.
You are correct about the temp. This is too hot. Anything over about 120-130F would scare me. This is exactly the kind of support I got from Seicane where they assumed I was a complete freaking idiot. Wasn't even worth my time to explain to them that one of the degrees I hold is in electrical engineering. Took dozens of emails back and forth to finally get them to send me another MOST box. Good luck... it really is a crap shoot with these damn things and this company.
From what I understand it is a risk to purchase from Seicane. IMO it is a good looking unit but it lacks engineering and customer support. For me it's a no go with them.
Has anyone tried similar unit from another company? I am searching my options and my local specialist suggested the Kenwood route but €1800 is an overkill for 7" screen.
Ugghhhh I was planning on ordering a Seicane 9" unit today but now this is scaring me...After a lot of research last week it was looking like the Seicane was going to be the easiest install and by far the cheapest and it seemed like most people were getting them installed with minor issues but now its seeming like about half of the people across forums are having major issues with installing a fully functioning unit.
It seems like they are seriously lacking on quality control and customer support seems to be even worse!
I would say just send the unit back for replacement and not waste anymore time with it but I wouldn't be surprised if you never saw a new one.
I hope you get this resolved quickly so I can feel a little better about going forward with my purchase!

It is about a 50/50 shot and the only way to get anywhere is to threaten a paypal dispute. Regardless, he is out at least $100 to ship the only back and will need a lot of luck to get them to send a replacement.
I have a few defective things in my unit regarding the radio and reverse camera input doing some crazy things, but it is not even worth it to me to try to deal with them any further and just deal with it.
This is so sad really.
I've had mine trouble free since November 2016 and really enjoy it (Android 4.4) Worst problem I've had is screen glare...
FWIW, if I read these recent posts I'd stay away too, but for me, it really adds to the enjoyment of the vehicle. The Stellio music app is awesome

It really is, sad that is. I bought a replacement DVD player off ebay, better one, to replace the unit Seicane refuses to service or replace. Getting it installed shortly. Really pissed I'm spending $$$ on a replacement unit AND another couple bills in troubleshooting and swapping their crap. This company was SO CLOSE to something great. I would have gladly paid more for better stuff. As it is, I appreciate what it DOES do, but will always be ticked off the radio antenna doesn't work. Spent more $$$ troubleshooting that, too. All in all, Seicane is a suck company that deserves to be run out of business.
Sorry you are having trouble with the unit and Seicane. Mines still rocking since March 2016. I have tried a couple times to correct the misconception that Seicane manufactured this radio: "Mr Seicane" running this website from his apartment did not. This same unit is available all over the internet, I think I posted one forsale from Amazon last time. Given peoples recent Q/C issues, Amazon would be a good route to go. Same with any of the accessories like the DVD player - none are exclusive to Seicane and you can score better prices on Amazon and eBay.
I couldnt live with the 1980s PCM no AUX input, non-bluetooth, CD-changer in the boot! This was the best option for me, but if I didnt have Android OS, car stereo install experience, and DIY mod inclination then maybe not. For the price, Id buy 2 to get a working one before going back to PCM. I sold my old PCM on eBay for MORE than the price of this radio. Im not surprised some shops dont want to jump at installing something they didnt sell into a Porsche. Sounds scary and I would probably run away too unless the job was T&M.
Im glad to see there are other mainstream (like Kenwood and Alpine) CarOS options coming to market. The need for these grey market decks will go away eventually, but right now they fill some odd shape OEM dash holes quite nicely.

I am now contemplating buying an Android 7.1.1 unit now. I like the idea of potentially being able to use 4G (if it actually works). It seems Seicane is the only supplier for the Cayenne 7.1.1 9" unit at the moment and its even cheaper than the 6.0.1. Could it just be one of their old units reflashed?
I completely agree that they are a suck company but im tired of this PCM crap and i just feel so bad paying a tenth of what the car is worth on a Kenwood unit

I'm kinda liking that my TTS is only $14k bluebook. Looks perfect and runs perfectly, too. One bad module I need to replace to get rid of an idiot light. Nice thing about our pigs is they don't go out of style like others, aren't obsoleted at least IMO by facelifts. If well maintained and you plan on keeping it, make it sound good.
So I know I just said I am grateful for what the unit DOES do right. We're going to have to change that to "was", past tense. As of yesterday, it's pretty much dead. Less than a year old. The home and return buttons don't work. There's no sound at all. The steering wheel controls are inoperative. Pressing on radio produces a blink and back to the menu. Pandora and Youtube start but no sound.
I'm ready to give this piece of **** a binary hi colonic, reset to factory defaults to see if that does anything, but it seems to need a code or password of some sort to do it. Anyone know what it is?
