You should buy a lottery ticket

Two friends? Really?! We've hardly had that many people post here about the issue and you must know both of them!

Even if we include your two friends into every case that has come up on all the forums combined the failure rate is still FAR BELOW 1%. Which is hardly a poor track record

I have two friends both with Cayenne S's and both needed engine replacements. .

Unfortunately, Porsche track record on engines hasn't been the greatest lately...

Porsche fanboy I see...

Who said my two friends were the end all to this sampling pool? lol (you did apparently)

There is no disputing a simple google search will reveal there is a lot more than just a few that have had catastrophic engine failure. Hey, its your money do with it as you please but don't bash me for simply responding to the OP's post.

It's not like sourcing a Cayenne engine is rare. These on used market are cheap. You could go out now and get a working one now and just keep it for spare parts.

Well if there really is an issue with the Cayenne's V-8, then the 928/944 community has the answer, LS swap!

Nah....just a fan of facts instead of rumors!

Your google must work differently than mine. Because when I search for Cayenne engine failure....and the actually read the topics.....I find that 75-80% of the posts are the same people asking about and discussing the same question in different places and coming to the conclusion that these problems are few and far between! Many of them related to owners that can't seem to remember the last time they checked the oil

The FACT is simply that VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY few of these motors have this issue. Literally less than 1%(probably less than one tenth of that), which isn't exactly the massive failure rate you want to make people believe it is!

Fresh oil and a filter, from day one, deactivates time bombs.

There are house wives out there right now that have been driving their leased V8 cars, future "like new" cars on the used lot, with the CHECK OIL light on the dash for thousands of miles.

Those lease returns will hit the market, be purchased by some used car buyer who assumes it is "like new", and BOOM! there goes the neighborhood.

Fresh oil and a filter from day one = no time bomb.

Agreed. Automotive filter technology is far behind the extended service life of syn oil. 5k miles is my limit; because of the filter, not the oil.

I had four scored cylinder walls at 73k miles..... Thankfully still under CPO warranty. I bought it from a dealer in Minneapolis with 13k miles.

I changed the oil/filter every 5k miles using the recommended Mobil 1 synthetic.

My dealer in TX had never seen one until mine. He spoke to a few dealers in the midwest and NY and they reported seeing several per year.

Can't worry about it, just keep up on your maintenance and enjoy. If you can not afford the repairs, buy a Honda.

I'm sorry but this is a bull**** response many Porsche owners get. Tell me why the cheap Honda won't suffer scoring when the Porsche will?

Let us know how happy you are when the $14k bill is presented to you.

Probably because the Honda doesn't rev to 7000 rpm and put out 400 HP.

That being said I would not be happy with a $14K bill.
